Job Summary
Hemlock Contracting Ltd. is seeking a reliable and technically skilled Field Service Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be based in Timmins, Ontario, and will provide on-site technical support for X-ray and related equipment, including:
- Linear accelerators (Linac)
- X-ray systems
- Automation systems
- Industrial control systems
- Chillers and cooling systems
- Electrical and mechanical equipment
The ideal candidate will have an educational or professional background in electrical engineering, automation, instrumentation, controls, electronics, or a related technical field, together with at least two years of relevant work experience.
Accommodation will be provided by the company in Timmins. When travel is required, necessary transportation or vehicles will be provided at the project location, subject to company policies.
Responsibilities
- Prepare maintenance plans for equipment located at different project sites.
- Coordinate and perform regular preventive maintenance to maintain equipment availability and reliability.
- Perform on-call, hands-on troubleshooting, servicing, and repairs at customer locations.
- Provide high-level technical support to external customers on site and remotely when required.
- Assist with equipment installation, testing, commissioning, and start-up activities.
- Support the installation and commissioning of Linac, X-ray, automation, chiller, electrical, and control systems.
- Provide in office training and basic operating guidance to customers.
- Diagnose electrical, automation, control, mechanical, and system-related issues.
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, manuals, and technical documentation.
- Work with project implementation, customer service, product management, manufacturing, sales, and other cross-functional teams.
- Prepare and update service manuals, maintenance procedures, technical reports, and other service documentation.
- Respond to field-service calls and resolve issues in a timely and professional manner.
- Complete and submit service reports, maintenance records, inspection forms, and other required paperwork on time.
- Communicate with customers to confirm satisfaction and implement corrective actions when necessary.
- Follow all applicable company, customer, occupational health and safety, and site-specific procedures.
- Perform other duties appropriate to the capabilities and responsibilities of a Field Service Engineer.
Requirements
- Diploma, degree, or technical training in electrical engineering, automation, instrumentation, controls, electronics, electromechanical engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum two years of relevant experience in field service, industrial equipment, automation, electrical systems, medical equipment, laboratory systems, or a similar technical environment.
- Experience with one or more of the following is an asset:
- Linear accelerators or Linac systems
- X-ray equipment
- Industrial automation and control systems
- PLCs, sensors, motors, and control panels
- Chillers, HVAC, or cooling systems
- Equipment commissioning and preventive maintenance
- Electrical and mechanical troubleshooting
- Ability to read technical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment manuals.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and customer-service skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Good written and spoken English.
- Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel to customer and project sites, including locations in:
- Timmins, Ontario
- Hamilton, Ontario
- Thunder Bay, Ontario
- Gander, Newfoundland and Labrador
- Other locations as required
- Willingness to work on-call, occasional overtime, weekends, or evenings when required.
- Ability to complete customer-specific training, safety training, security screening, and site-access requirements.
