Nestled along the shores of beautiful Georgian Bay, The Georgian Peaks Club is a private ski club with a strong sense of community, a passionate membership and a dynamic seasonal operation.
We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Controller, Finance & Accounting to join our Senior Management Team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys being both a strategic financial leader and a hands-on contributor, and who thrives in an environment where no two days are quite the same.
Reporting to the General Manager and working closely with the Chair of the Finance Committee, you will oversee the day-to-day financial operations of the Club while providing leadership to a small accounting team. You will also lead our Human Resources and Payroll functions and work closely with managers and supervisors across the organization.
What You'll Do
Finance & Accounting
- Lead and oversee the Club's accounting and finance functions, including a team of two accounting staff.
- Develop, implement and manage detailed operating, capital and cash flow budgets.
- Prepare monthly financial statements, variance analysis and financial reports for Senior Management, the Finance Committee and Board of Directors.
- Monitor financial performance and work with department leaders to identify opportunities for budget and expense efficiencies.
- Oversee accounts payable, cash flow management and member/vendor payments.
- Prepare HST returns and the annual T3 return.
- Ensure robust internal controls are maintained for purchasing and payments.
- Coordinate year-end reconciliations, working papers and supporting documentation for the external auditor.
- Coordinate financial reports, analysis and information requested by the General Manager,
Department Managers, Finance Committee or Board.
- Provide leadership, guidance and training to accounting staff and other departments as required.
- Communicate and collaborate with the Senior Management Team, Board of Directors, Finance Committee and Club Members.
Human Resources & Payroll
- Provide HR support and guidance to Department Managers and Supervisors.
- Lead the bi-weekly payroll process for approximately 19 full-time and 350 seasonal employees.
- Maintain accurate and confidential personnel records.
- Support employee onboarding, orientation, training, and annual updates to the Employee Handbook and J-Prep program.
- Stay current with the Ontario Employment Standards Act and other relevant employment requirements.
- Support management in ensuring all required employee training and certifications are completed and up to date.
- Prepare and submit payroll remittances, T4s, group insurance, RRSP, EHT and WSIB requirements, including incident and accident reporting.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who combines robust financial expertise with excellent people and leadership skills.
You will bring:
- A minimum of 4 years of hands-on accounting and financial management experience, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, budgeting, financial statement preparation and payroll.
- CPA designation preferred.
- Strong Excel, analytical, and technical skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to prioritize in a busy, seasonal environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to build effective relationships at every level of the organization.
- A collaborative, approachable leadership style.
- Experience working in a private club or non-profit environment is an asset.
- Experience with Jonas is an asset.
Hours & Work Environment
This is a full-time, year-round position with a seasonal schedule that reflects the Club's operating calendar.
Winter/Ski Season:
5 days per week, with regular weekend work, including Saturdays and Sundays.
Off-Season:
Flexible hours, providing greater flexibility in how your work week is structured.
