Posting: Behaviour Supports Ontario (BSO) Counsellor
Job Type: Full-time, permanent – 35 hours/week
Job Description: The BSO Counsellor provides expertise to support an interdisciplinary team that works with persons with behavioural challenges living in their own homes, in the community, hospital and in long-term care homes, as well as their families and care providers.
Working closely with the hospital based BSO Mobile Support Team, and other allied health care providers, the BSO Counsellor will contribute to improving the quality of life for clients experiencing responsive behaviours related to dementia. Their goal is to build community capacity to support persons with a diagnosis, their care partners, or allied health professionals in the place where people live. The BSO Counsellor supports a team that provides behavioural support to individual clients and caregivers, transitional management between health care providers, and ongoing training and mentorship for service provider agency staff, clinicians, and families.
Qualifications:
· University degree in Social Work, and/or other registered professions
· Current registration with Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, or other health-related professional college required
· Prior experience with elderly clients in community and/or long-term care settings
· Training in P.I.E.C.E.S, U-First! and GPA an asset
· Demonstrated extensive knowledge and skill working with elderly individuals with various types of dementia, delirium, mental health issues, addictions, and other neurological conditions
· Demonstrated knowledge of a systems approach to person-centered care,
including the effect of responsive behaviours on the person, family members and caregivers
· Demonstrated person and caregiver focused care that recognizes the uniqueness, strengths, and abilities of each person, and promotes optimal quality of life
· Knowledge of relevant community resources and service systems to facilitate support for clients, family members and caregivers through the process of community integration and advocacy
· Flexibility in adapting to changing priorities e.g., to represent the Society at events and programs which occur outside of regular work hours
· Provide a systematic and practical framework for assessment in consultation with Mobile team members to formulate diagnostic impressions and develop a holistic plan to address client needs
· Advanced communication and interpersonal skills to function effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment serving a variety of clients, their family members, and caregivers. Strong skills in documentation and case-related correspondence
· Driver’s license with access to a vehicle
· Vulnerable Sector Police Screening

The Alzheimer Society Huron Perth actively supports families and individuals affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. We advocate for and provide support services, education, and funding for research for those affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.
What We Offer:
· Salary - $45,073 to $67,610 annually, commensurate with experience
