On-Call Activation Staff

The On-Call Activation Staff member will provide coverage for the Activation Department when regularly scheduled staff are absent due to illness, vacation, or other approved leaves. The successful candidate will assist in providing meaningful, engaging, and secure activities and outings for residents while maintaining a positive and respectful environment.

Qualifications

- Must have completed an Activation, Recreation, Gerontology, or related course/program suitable for working with seniors.
- Previous experience working with seniors is required, preferably in a retirement home, community, recreation, or similar environment.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and facilitate activities.
- Creative, enthusiastic, and able to engage residents in a variety of activities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Reliable and flexible with the ability to accept on-call shifts when required.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to work cooperatively with all departments within the facility.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide vacation and sick-call coverage for regularly scheduled Activation staff.
- Facilitate scheduled activities, programs, and outings according to the established monthly activity calendar.
- Assist with planning and preparing activities when required.




- Encourage resident participation while respecting each resident's individual choice and abilities.
- Assist with special events and programs as required.
- Maintain accurate attendance records for activities and outings.
- Complete required documentation and reports related to activities and events.
- Assist with coordinating volunteers when required during coverage shifts.
- Ensure activities are conducted safely and in accordance with facility policies and procedures.
- Communicate resident concerns, observations, or changes to the appropriate department or supervisor.
- Work collaboratively with other departments to support resident needs and facility events.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe activity area.
- Follow all applicable policies, procedures, health and safety requirements, and direction provided by management.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Availability Requirements

This is an on-call position. The successful candidate must be willing to accept shifts on an as-needed basis to provide coverage for:

- Staff illness
- Vacation
- Approved leaves of absence
- Unexpected staffing needs
- Special events or programs, when required

Hours and shifts will vary depending on the coverage required.

Job Types: Part-time, Casual

Pay: From $19.55 per hour
