A stable municipal fleet operation is hiring an Equipment Mechanic in Oakville, ON to maintain and repair gas- and diesel-powered grounds, winter, agricultural, and construction equipment. Ideal candidates bring 5+ years of relevant repair experience 421A or 425A certification is preferred but not required to apply. Duties & Responsibilities

- Perform inspections, preventive maintenance, tune-ups, repairs, and rebuilds on gas- and diesel-powered equipment, generally under 100 HP.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems, including engines, drivetrains, steering, brakes, suspension, PTOs, and related components.
- Maintain equipment such as riding mowers, farm tractors, winter-control equipment, sweepers, compactors, backhoes, and similar grounds and construction equipment.
- Use OEM diagnostic software, service manuals, schematics, diagnostic tools, and testing procedures to troubleshoot issues and confirm repairs.
- Perform welding, fabrication, equipment modifications, and seasonal preparation or storage work using standard shop equipment and hand tools.
- Complete field and emergency repairs as required, maintain accurate service records, support preventive maintenance planning, and follow safe work practices.

Requirements

- Required:

- - 5+ years of hands-on experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing a wide range of gas- and diesel-powered equipment.
- Solid working knowledge of engine, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, mechanical,



brake, steering, and drivetrain systems.
- Experience using OEM diagnostic software, service information, schematics, diagnostic tools, and standard shop equipment.
- Welding and fabrication experience, including MIG and arc welding, with your own basic mechanic’s tools.
- Valid unrestricted Ontario Class DZ Driver’s Licence with standard and automatic transmission capability and a safe driving record.
- Grade 12 education or recognized equivalent, with strong communication and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team and adjust between changing repair priorities.

- Preferred:

- - Agricultural Equipment Technician 425A or Heavy Duty Equipment Technician 421A certification is preferred. Experienced equipment mechanics without either certification are encouraged to apply and, if hired without one, must obtain it within 24–36 months.
- Propane/natural gas, lift truck, overhead crane, rigging, and ozone depletion certifications. Candidates without these may still be considered and may be required to obtain them after hire.
- Familiarity with Book 7 Traffic Control, the Highway Traffic Act, WHMIS, Occupational Health and Safety requirements, and related regulations.

#SJ1 Compensation:

- $37.70/hour probationary rate

- $38.00/hour full-time rate
