Job Overview
We are seeking an IT Instructor to provide remote academic instruction and support to adult learners enrolled in an online information technology program.
The instructor will support student learning by answering technical and academic questions, monitoring student progress, assessing coursework, providing constructive feedback, and maintaining regular virtual availability.
This position is well suited to an IT professional or educator who can explain technical concepts clearly and provide practical guidance to learners with varying levels of technical experience.
The successful candidate will work with assigned online cohorts and collaborate with the academic team to identify students requiring additional support and ensure appropriate academic follow-up.
Qualifications/ Requirements
- Candidates must have at least 48 months (4 years) of relevant occupational and/or teaching experience in the vocation within the previous 10 years; OR at least 24 months (2 years) of relevant occupational and/or teaching experience.
- Postsecondary education in Information Technology, Computer Systems, Computer Science, Networking, Cybersecurity, Cloud Computing, or a related field is preferred.
- Relevant professional experience in areas such as IT support, systems administration, networking, cloud services, cybersecurity, technical support, or related IT functions is required.
- Industry certifications such as Microsoft, CompTIA, Cisco, AWS, or other relevant IT certifications are considered assets.
- Previous experience teaching, training, mentoring, or supporting adult learners in an online environment is considered an asset.
- Candidates must be able to provide documentation supporting their education and relevant professional experience if selected.
Duties
- Provide academic instruction, technical guidance, and ongoing support to students enrolled in assigned online IT courses.
- Monitor student participation, coursework activity, and academic progress through the Learning Management System (LMS).
- Respond to student technical and academic questions through email, LMS messaging, virtual meetings, and other approved communication channels.
- Maintain scheduled virtual office hours and provide students with regular access to academic and technical assistance.
- Assess assignments, projects, quizzes, and other coursework, providing timely and constructive feedback to support student learning.
- Identify students experiencing academic or technical difficulties and provide appropriate follow-up, additional guidance, or academic intervention.
- Maintain documentation of significant academic interactions and escalate unresolved student concerns to the appropriate academic representative when required.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of information technology fundamentals, including computer systems, operating systems, networking, troubleshooting, cloud technologies, and cybersecurity concepts.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to adult learners.
- Comfortable using Learning Management Systems (LMS), virtual meeting platforms, and other online instructional tools.
- Familiarity with Microsoft technologies, Microsoft 365, Windows environments, networking, and cloud-based systems is preferred.
- Previous teaching, technical training, coaching, mentoring, or instructional experience in IT or a related field is preferred.
- Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and time-management skills with the ability to manage student communication, assessment, and follow-up independently.
- Ability to provide constructive academic feedback, recognize students requiring additional support, and maintain skilled student interactions in a remote setting.
Pay: From $25.00 per hour
