Registered Respiratory Therapist, Critical Care/Respirology UnitYour goal in this position is to promote a patient and family centered care approach. You will do this by collaborating with an interdisciplinary team of care providers in a supportive and culturally sensitive manner. You have clinical expertise, competence, and technical skills as related to the position. You are also flexible to changing priorities and committed to continuous learning and professional development. You have great interpersonal skills, and you effortlessly connect with physicians, staff, patients, and families.
You will take a leadership in advocating and providing exceptional health care to patients and families. This position supports the hospital’s academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for staff, physicians, volunteers, learners, patients and families.On a practical level, you will
Participate collaboratively within interprofessional healthcare teams with adult, pediatric and newborn patients in the Critical Care UnitProvide ventilation management, weaning and discontinuationPerform as a member of Code Teams and Critical Care Response TeamAssist at high risk deliveries performing neonatal resuscitationPerform airway management including intubations and tracheostomy tube insertionsPerform insertion of arterial linesAdminister pharmaceutical substances in respiratory carePerform related diagnostic tests including procurement and interpretation of arterial blood gases, assisting with bronchoscopiesSupervise, teach and evaluate students as assigned by clinical coordinatorEducate patients, families,
caregivers and health care professionals in respiratory careDemonstrate the ability to lift and position patients and related equipment.Qualifications
Diploma/Degree in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited institutionRegistration with the College of Respiratory Therapists of OntarioCurrent Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification, requiredCurrent Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, requiredCurrent NRP certification, requiredExperience in adult intubation and adult radial arterial line insertionMembership with C.S.R.T. and R.T.S.O. preferredExperience in neonatal intubation preferredWhat We Offer
