Senior Group UnderwriterLocation: Anywhere in Canada - RemoteThe total target compensation (TTC) range, including salary and target bonus, is $78,698 - $125,350. This TTC range is applicable to permanent roles only; fixed-term contract andcasual roles are not eligible for annual bonus and would receive only the base salary component. The actual base salary offered within this range will be determined by the successful candidate’s skills and experience, as well as internal equity.Empire Life is looking to hire a Bilingual Senior Group Underwriter to join our Group Solutions - Underwriting team! We are actively seeking candidates to fill a current, open position.Why pursue this opportunityOur mission - Provide expertise and intelligent solutions to help Canadians navigate life with confidence.Join a transforming business - we are a medium-sized Canadian company in a stable industry that emphasizes the importance of innovation to use industry-leading technology.Hone your skills - this is an opportunity that allows for you to grow your technical, and functional skills.What you’ll be working onEnsure that complex requests to quote, amendment, and renewals are assessed appropriately & accurately and within established turnaround time to support business sales and profitability objectivesLeads and coaches (be the “Go-To”) the underwriting development of more junior underwriters within the teamActs as an informal leader within the team, supporting leadership with driving forward business initiatives and strategic objectivesEnsure the profitability of group business from an underwriting perspective with a focus on establishing and growing long term partnershipsUses experience and judgment, in conjunction with Underwriting guidelines, product and service knowledge to determine optimal and creative solutions to meet customer needs and requirementsEnsure the profitability of group business through consultative underwriting practices; ensuring effective caselevel management at time of acquisition and renewalAppropriately documents underwriting decisions to support risk and pricing decisions; and make decisions on negotiations and market rates on all case types within defined parametersLeads the development and communication of process and practice changes,



including maintenance of the Underwriting Guidelines and other documents relevant to the functional unitProvides consistent and fulsome interpretation of group insurance policy terms to customers and distribution partners in support of strategic business objectivesWork collaboratively with other team members, inside and outside of underwriting to support quote, renewal and amendment outcomes to achieve strategic objectivesAct as a subject matter expert to provide consultation and problem resolution for the business units and the distribution teams on risk-related issuesAbility to constructively and extensively apply underwriting tools to experience rate Life and LTDAbility to articulate underwriting and pricing recommendations to a broad set of stakeholders, including: internal teams, external teams and senior leadershipProactively engages with both internal and external stakeholders to engage in discussions to support both client acquisition and retention while serving as a primary point of contactInteracts with reinsurance providers to spread risks on retention amounts that exceed the Empire Life retention limitExecutes on consultative underwriting practices that include risk interpretation, pricing recommendation, partner collaboration while working within defined parametersActs as a primary point of contacts for key partners externallyWhat we’re looking for you to have7+ years of work experience in the group insurance/financial services industryProven knowledge of group benefits products, contractual provisions, risk assessment, and pricing methodologies with a proven ability to apply knowledge in practiceDemonstrated experience and comfortability in interacting with group sales and service environmentsProficient in Microsoft Office SuiteWell-developed customer relations skillsGBA or CEBS DesignationCompletion of a university degree or college diploma in a relevant fieldFinancial analysis & trend analysisAbility to work independently and as a team memberAbility to think logically, analyze,
