Health and Safety SpecialistBurlington, ON. Full‑time. Salary $75,000 – $80,000 per year.Emterra Group is a dynamic, growth‑oriented and safety‑focused company providing collection and processing for recycling, organics, and waste. We are looking for an energetic and driven Health & Safety Specialist to support our Ontario team. The role focuses on establishing a culture of Health and Safety through development, implementation, training and maintenance of policies, procedures and programs across our Ontario fleet, plant and office locations. This position reports to the Regional Health & Safety/Risk Manager and supports operational managers and supervisors in the enforcement and management of safety initiatives.ResponsibilitiesSupport the ongoing implementation and maintenance of company‑wide Health and Safety programs.Accountable for the development and effective implementation of Health and Safety programs for all locations.Maintain accurate and complete records that meet regulatory requirements.Conduct audits on accident / incident reporting and implement action plans for corrective action.Manage Health and Safety data, including trend analysis and reporting of safety performance to all levels of the organization.Implement the Certificate of Recognition Program (COR).Manage resources and applicable budgets.Participate in Joint Health and Safety Committee activities.Anticipate, identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices through site knowledge, employee interaction and inspections.Provide recommendations for correcting safety hazards and unsafe work practices.Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of Health and Safety trends, methods and practices in the waste,
transportation or manufacturing industries.Develop and deliver varied employee Health and Safety training programs.Requirements3–5 years’ experience in a progressively senior health and safety role; fleet safety and compliance experience is an asset.Completion of post‑secondary education from a recognized Occupational Health and Safety program or equivalent combination of experience and training.CRSP designation or in‑process certification is an asset.Strong legislative expertise in MOL and OHSA.Experience managing staff and directing activities toward safety objectives.Experience working with management in unionized and non‑unionized environments.Experience leading safety committees, including auditing, training and implementing best practices.Participation in Safety Groups.Certificate of Recognition (COR) Program auditor/implementation experience is an asset.Proven track record in designing and delivering safety training; strong presentation skills.Excellent command of the English language, both verbal and written.Strong proficiency in MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).Experience in the waste industry, transportation or manufacturing is a definite asset.Position may be based at Smiths Falls site with frequent travel to other Ontario sites and occasional travel to Manitoba and Saskatchewan; flexibility to travel is required.BenefitsOpportunity to be part of one of Canada’s Greenest Employers.Competitive wages.Comprehensive health advantages (health, dental and additional options).Employee Assistance Program paid by the company.Tuition reimbursement program and professional development support.Entrepreneurial organization that encourages learning and growth.Ability to have an impact and make a change.Emterra Group is committed to maintaining an equitable, fair, and diverse environment.
