Job Title:Staff Backend Engineer (SaaS, Data & AI)Job SummaryWe’re hiring a Staff Backend Engineer to help design and deliver SaaS products powered by data, machine learning, and AI. This is a hands‑on engineering role focused on building scalable backend systems, integrating ML/AI capabilities into customer workflows, and improving system reliability and performance across the platform. You’ll work closely with Product, Design, Data, and Engineering teams to deliver production‑ready features while contributing to architecture decisions, engineering standards, and technical mentorship across teams.Roles & ResponsibilitiesDesign, build, and maintain backend services and APIs for a multi‑tenant SaaS platformDeliver backend features end-to-end, including APIs, business logic, integrations, and data modelsPartner with Product, Design, and Data/ML teams to integrate ML and AI capabilities into customer workflowsImprove system scalability, reliability, monitoring, and operational performance across production servicesContribute to architecture decisions related to APIs, distributed systems, authentication, and integrationsParticipate in incident response, troubleshooting, and production support for critical servicesLead code reviews, mentor engineers, and contribute to engineering standards and best practicesRequired Qualifications8+ years of software engineering experience in a production environmentExperience designing and building backend systems for SaaS applicationsExperience building APIs and backend services using technologies such as Node.Js, Java, Go, Rust, or similarExperience integrating data, ML,



or AI capabilities into production systemsExperience working with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and distributed systemsPreferred QualificationsExperience with Python and data‑related tooling (e.G., pandas, PyTorch)Experience working with relational databases, caching systems, or data warehousing conceptsFamiliarity with ML/AI systems, including model integrations or LLM‑powered workflowsExperience with containers and cloud infrastructure technologiesExperience improving monitoring, observability, and operational toolingExperience mentoring engineers or contributing to technical design reviewsExperience using AI‑assisted development tools (e.G., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT) in development workflowsCompensation RangeThe base salary range for this role is CAD $210,000 – $250,000 / year.An individual’s base pay depends on various factors including geographical location and review of experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant.
