Job Description:

- Co-ordinate special events
- Determine the size of food portions and costs
- Plan menus and estimate food requirements for their realization
- Requisition food and kitchen supplies
- Prepare and cook complete meals or individual dishes and foods
- Prepare dishes for customers with food allergies or intolerances
- Inspect kitchens and food service areas
- Train staff in preparation, cooking and handling of food
- Order supplies and equipment
- Maintain inventory and records of food, supplies and equipment
- Clean kitchen and work areas
- Organize buffets and banquets
- Occasionally attend catering events outside the restaurant

Requirements

Education : Completion of secondary school is usually required.

Experience : At least 3 years of experience is required.



If the candidate does not possess the required experience, completion of a three-year apprenticeship program for cooks, or completion of a college or other program in cooking or food safety, or several years of commercial cooking experience will be required.

Salary : $17.00 to $19.00 hourly. 40 hours per week.

Tips, learning/training paid by the employer, accommodation available at a discounted rate, uniforms and meals are provided. Travel expenses will be covered by the employer if the worker needs to relocate.

Flexibility in schedule is required. Different shifts between 7:00 AM and 11:00 PM are scheduled seven days a week, with two days off on a rotational basis. The most common shifts are in the morning from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM and in the afternoon from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM. However, hours may vary depending on the restaurant’s needs. Work on weekends and holidays is required, and overtime may be necessary.
