Parent Education and Support Worker- Permanent Full Time- 35 Hours/WeekDate Posted: 6/11/2024Location: Head Office - 2010 Eglinton Avenue West #400, Toronto, ON, CAReference No.: E24-01-84Position Type: Full time (Permanent)Position SummaryThe Parent Education and Support Worker promotes effective parenting/caregiving and child development by providing parent support and education through evidence-based parenting techniques and early child development strategies and by providing information, referral and facilitated access to community resources to isolated, high need/high-risk parents of children birth to six years, including prenatal women in a variety of languages.ResponsibilitiesConduct a range of outreach activities to reach vulnerable families and liaise with other agencies to reach and meet the needs of families, including high risk/isolated familiesProvide home visits in accordance with program protocolsProvide service in collaboration with public health nurses for Healthy Babies Healthy Children referralsEstablish relationship with families and work with them to identify needs and goalsImplement strategies to facilitate the early identification of children’s special needs (such as developmental screening)Carry out a range of educational activities to promote optimal development and well-being of children and model appropriate parenting skillsProvide information on parenting, child development and child guidance through 1:1 family home visits and parenting sessions in group settingsProvide and promote social support, including the development of parent networksLink and accompany parents and children to community programs and servicesCommunicate respectfully and responsively with families, parents,
caregivers and children.Maintain up-to-date knowledge of community services and resources to support familiesMentor or supervise students and volunteersPerform other tasks as delegated or assignedQualificationsStrong parenting skillsDemonstrated sensitivity to the needs of families living under stressKnowledge of child development and parenting skills and issuesDemonstrated extensive knowledge of community resourcesExperience designing and facilitating workshops and group training sessions for adultsStrong written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish requiredExcellent interpersonal and listening skillsComputer literacyDemonstrated ability to build and maintain effective work partnerships with parents/families, colleagues and service providers of diverse backgrounds, abilities and identitiesAbility to work independently and as a member of a teamAbility to work all shifts: day, evening and weekend hours as requiredEffective time management skills and ability to prioritizeCurrent Standard First Aid and CPR-C certificationAcceptable Vulnerable Sector Police Reference CheckSalaryParent Education and Support Worker Salary Scale (starting at $48,268 per annum) with Competitive Benefits Package (health & dental) and paid time off entitlements (starting at 20 vacation days & 3 float days).
