Services are free and include a variety of groups, activities & one‑on‑one supports in‑person or online.Employment Status:Full time Temporary until incumbent returnsWorking Hours:Tuesday through Saturday. Shift times: 11:30 – 19:30 (Tue‑Wed) & 10:00 – 18:00 (Thu‑Sat). Shifts are 7.5 hours in length. Days of rest shall be consecutive. Schedule may change with two weeks’ notice.Probationary Period:488 hours with mid and end point reviews.Salary:$29.62 – $31.40 per hour, depending upon seniority.Job SummaryThe Recovery Advocate reports to the Site Manager and works in accordance with the mission and philosophy of Lookout Housing and Health Society, including following Lookout’s Code of Ethics. The role involves accepting referrals, intake and orientation of guests, providing support for mental, developmental and physical needs, interacting with the public and coordinating with other service agencies. The Advocate ensures a safe, caring environment and maintains all required documentation.Job DutiesProvides assistance to guests by identifying and sharing information on a variety of Lookout or external community/government resources, including services such as housing, meals, health, treatment, legal and financial needs.



Documents guests’ activities and resources used based on guest disclosure and worker provided information.Participates in and oversees various client‑focused social and recreational activities.Administers medication to clients and provides medication reminders in accordance with established policy.Assists clients with activities of daily living such as feeding, lifts and transfers, grooming, and toileting.Accompanies guests on outings such as appointments, shopping, and leisure activities; may include accompanying guests to other sites for services.Completes and maintains related manual and computerized records and documentation by performing duties such as documenting interactions with guests, maintaining statistical data, completing individual files, medication charts and accounting forms.Performs a variety of cleaning duties such as toilet cleaning, bed‑making as needed, general clean‑up of assigned area and running errands such as laundry.Assists guests with self‑care skills through methods such as providing support and encouragement to maintain personal hygiene, housekeeping, meal planning and preparation, financial obligations and appointments.Participates as a team member with other staff to ensure a safe and caring environment by performing duties such as responding to emergencies and supporting others through sharing knowledge and information.Observes guests and their environments to ensure safety of guests and premises through reporting unsafe conditions, incidents and/or behaviours and dealing with client emergencies in accordance with guidelines.Defuses volatile situations through non‑violent crisis intervention techniques and records observations for communication to other staff.Assists in providing orientation to new employees or students, familiarizing them with policies, procedures, equipment of the facility and work area,



and demonstrating work procedures. Gives tours of services offered by Lookout.Provides direction to guest(s), volunteer(s) and/or community placements assigned to the work area by demonstrating tasks, monitoring work, supporting and maintaining attendance schedules.Employees are expected to remain alert and attentive during working hours. Sleeping during shifts is not permitted.Responsible for complying with and contributing to all aspects of health and safety program.Performs other related duties as assigned.Qualifications & CompetenceRelated Certificate or minimum Grade 12 education plus two (2) years of recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Familiarity with community resources such as addiction, mental health, income assistance and harm reduction.Must have a current Occupational First Aid Level 1 Certificate.Training in Crisis Intervention Skills (CPI), Naloxone and Trauma‑Informed Practice is an asset.Ability to work independently or in a team setting.Strong ability to manage stress and organize workload.Excellent communication, writing, documentation and organizational skills.Understands and maintains client/worker boundaries.Ability to work with disadvantaged and challenging adults in a diverse environment.Strong physical and mental ability to perform work tasks and operate job‑related equipment.Minimum of two (2) years of sobriety if the candidate has concerns related to alcohol and/or drug use.Criminal Record Clearance – Vulnerable Sector required.Closing DateApplications will be accepted until June 4, 2026 at 5:00pm.EEO StatementLookout Housing and Health Society is committed to empowering people from different races, gender, age, religion, identities and unique experiences.
