About the Role
The Company is seeking a Vice-President, Corporate Actuarial to lead the actuarial valuation and regulatory capital reporting functions. This executive role is pivotal in providing independent insights into financial performance, supporting strategic decision-making, and ensuring compliance with actuarial, accounting, and regulatory standards. The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing and executing the vision and priorities for the valuation function, leading a team of skilled actuarial professionals, and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Key responsibilities include overseeing actuarial methodologies, models, and governance processes, leading experience studies, and assumption reviews, and driving consolidated actuarial reporting for executive consumption. The role also involves partnering with various functions such as finance, risk management, pricing, reinsurance, ALM, and investment teams on key actuarial, capital, and strategic initiatives.
Applicants for the Vice-President, Corporate Actuarial position at the company should be a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (FCIA) with a university degree in a related field and a minimum of 15 years' of relevant life insurance experience. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in valuation, financial reporting, and capital management within a life insurance environment, as well as deep knowledge of individual life products and Canadian life insurance financial reporting under IFRS 17 and LICAT. Superior organizational, analytical, communication, and relationship management skills are essential, as is the ability to build, lead, and develop high-performing actuarial teams. Experience with pricing, reinsurance, ALM, investments, AXIS, and Risk Integrity is considered an asset. The role requires a strategic thinker with robust business acumen, commercial awareness, and a proven track record of partnering with senior executives.
