The opportunity
As a Lead Piping Designer, you will serve as a key design focal point and representative within the Piping Discipline, providing technical leadership and clear direction to the piping design team while remaining actively involved in the development and modification of piping systems for complex offshore assets.
The successful candidate will have proven Brownfield experience, as well as a strong background in leading successful piping design teams. You will have extensive estimating experience, as well as overall scheduling and prioritization abilities.
You will establish design priorities, allocate and coordinate work across the piping design team, and develop work schedules aligned with project milestones, long-term objectives and required outcomes. Working closely with Piping Leads, Engineers, Surveyors, Fabrication and Construction teams, and multiple engineering disciplines, you will provide the support, technical guidance and direction required to progress designs from early concept and site survey through detailed design and ultimately to issued-for-construction deliverables.
As a senior member of the discipline, you will help maintain design quality and consistency, review and challenge technical solutions, identify and resolve design interfaces and constraints, and ensure that piping deliverables are produced safely, efficiently and in accordance with project requirements, applicable standards and agreed schedules.
This is a highly collaborative leadership position where strong communication, technical judgement and the ability to influence and coordinate others are as important as software capability. You will be expected to foster a close-knit, delivery-focused team environment,
support the development of less experienced designers and act as a dependable point of contact for piping design matters across the wider project team.
What we are looking for
We are looking for an experienced piping design professional with solid technical capability and the ability to provide leadership, direction and coordination within a senior design role.
You should be comfortable taking ownership of piping design activities, supporting the wider project team and working directly with engineering leads, project teams and client representatives.
We would like you to have:
- A minimum of 10 years of relevant piping design experience, ideally within a brownfield industrial environment.
- Technical college diploma or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Advanced knowledge and experience with computer-aided design software and techniques, including AVEVA E3D.
- Strong knowledge of standard methods and practices used within engineering design offices.
- Solid piping design and layout capability.
- Ability to identify and resolve design, fit and interference issues.
- Ability to provide technical direction and support to other designers.
- Experience coordinating and prioritizing design work.
- Ability to develop and monitor work plans and resource requirements.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with engineering leads, project teams and clients.
- Ability to support the development of less experienced designers.
- Strong technical judgement and a practical approach to resolving design challenges.
Consistent with the Atlantic Accords Act, residents of Newfoundland and Labrador specifically, and Canadians generally, who are qualified, will be given first consideration for training and employment. For applicants selected to be interviewed, pre-employment and background screening will be required.
