About the Role
The Company is in search of a General Counsel and Corporate Secretary to join its senior management team. The successful candidate will be the principal legal advisor, providing strategic legal advice on a range of issues, including the development and implementation of business strategy, commercial relationships, regulatory requirements, human resources, governance, and privacy law matters. This role also involves overseeing corporate secretarial functions, maintaining awareness of emerging technology issues, and managing disputes, litigation, and intellectual property matters. The ideal candidate will be an experienced lawyer with a strong background in corporate and commercial law, capable of translating legal matters into practical advice, and comfortable working in an evolving organization.
Applicants for the General Counsel and Corporate Secretary position at the company should have a minimum of ten years' legal experience, with a preference for those who have acted as a corporate secretary with a public company and have familiarity with employment and privacy law. The role requires a candidate who can see the big picture, assess risk, and set priorities in a dynamic business environment. Robust collaboration, organizational, and communication skills are essential, as is a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. In-house counsel experience is a must, and previous experience in the energy industry is considered an asset. The role is part-time, with a 0.6 full-time equivalent commitment, and is based in a professional office setting.
