OverviewUBC is seeking an Associate Director, Faculty of Medicine in Development & Alumni Engagement. This is a non-union staff role within the M&P; job category, Level D. The position reports to senior development leadership and works with UBC faculty and staff involved in fundraising, including senior university administrators.Posting DetailsCompensation Range: $8,305.08 – $12,952.33 CAD monthly. Job End Date: Ongoing.Job Description SummaryThis fundraiser position is responsible for generating strategic prospect contact at the major gift level and managing a defined development program at an average annual level of $1.5M+ or related activity at $1M+. The Associate Director manages a portfolio of 75–150 prospects, makes 20–25 solicitations, and aims to raise a minimum average of $1M annually. The role involves partnership with senior management to secure private and public sector support, and the development and implementation of comprehensive plans for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gift prospects and donors. The position oversees donor recognition, acknowledgment, stewardship programs, and the generation of donor/prospect solicitation materials and correspondence, with some administrative responsibilities. The role may include supervisory or mentoring responsibilities for junior development staff.Organizational Status and RelationshipsReports to: One of Senior Associate Director, Director/Assistant Dean, or Executive Director of Development. Works with: UBC faculty and staff involved in fundraising, including VP Development and Alumni Engagement, AVP Development, the President, and other senior administrators as appropriate. Contacts:



Donors and outside community groups and organizations. Supervises: Normally does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but may mentor junior development staff.Responsibilities (Work Performed)Work in partnership with senior management to facilitate maximum private and public sector support for the University, with a Faculty/unit annual dollar goal.Develop and manage a portfolio of major gift prospects (75–150), making face-to-face visits (100–200 annually) for discovery, cultivation and solicitation strategies for prospects at the major gift level (defined as $50,000 and up).Coordinate and attend face-to-face prospect/donor meetings; meet annual benchmarks for these meetings.Develop and implement a comprehensive plan for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gift prospects and donors; manage a portfolio of relationships.Develop proposals and work with donors to generate gifts for priority projects; implement strategies toclose major gift solicitations (20–25 annually).Ensure donor recognition, acknowledgement and stewardship programs are in place; generate solicitation materials and correspondence.Perform other related duties as required.Consequences of Error/JudgementThe role is a critical point of contact for donors and university staff. Incorrect interpretation of policies or lack of tact could damage relationships and donations. The Associate Director advises on interpretation and implementation of academic and fiscal policies for fundraising and development staff.



Improper advice or financial analysis could impact funds and governance; potential governance and stewardship implications exist.Supervision and Work EnvironmentSupervision Received: Works under general direction with independence in donor negotiations and policy interpretation; strategic planning withmanager.Supervision Given: Normally no direct supervisory responsibilities but may mentor junior staff.Minimum QualificationsUniversity degree in a relevant discipline.Minimum five years of related experience in fundraising, alumni relations, advancement, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion; willingness to respect diverse perspectives.Preferred QualificationsGraduate degree and/or undergraduate degree in commerce, marketing, or economics is preferred.Proven experience in major gift fundraising and strategy development.Knowledge of the university setting and academic structure; experience with centralized fundraising systems is an asset.Ability to work independently with good judgment; strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills.Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal/negotiation skills; ability to liaisewith major donors and senior administration.Ability to plan, coordinate, and supervise the work of others to execute complex projects with deadlines.Computer proficiency (MS Windows, Microsoft Office).About UBCThe University of British Columbia is a global centre for research and teaching and is recognized as a leading employer.
