Mechanical Equipment EngineerBWXT Nuclear Energy Canada Inc. (BWXT NEC) is committed to excellence in every business initiative. We supply nuclear fuel and fuel channel components, services, equipment and parts for the CANDU® nuclear power industry across Canada.The role is located in Peterborough, Ontario and reports to the Mechanical Equipment Engineering Manager. The engineer will set the technical direction, act as a technical interface point to both internal and external customers and focus on design of mechanical equipment and systems for CANDU reactors.ResponsibilitiesLead the execution of design, analysis, test and commissioning of complex equipment and systems throughout the entire product life cycle.Prepare, approve and lead design documentation including technical documents, drawings and BOMs, technical specifications, development and test plans, and engineering quotations.Develop and verify 3‑D models for conceptual design, perform stress analysis, and apply DFMA techniques.Provide technical support to CAD, Procurement, Manufacturing, Test, Quality, Commissioning and Service personnel.Participate in and lead internal and external design reviews, meetings, and presentations.Prepare and verify project‑level deliverables such as evaluations, reports and assessments.Manage design activity, meet milestones, deliver defect‑free designs and drive continuous improvement.Ensure compliance with Business Management System, industry codes and standards, quality systems, policy and contractual requirements.Report on status, issues, solutions, improvements and resource needs to leadership.Provide overall Project Technical Leadership (PTL)
for projects as required.Lead process change initiatives to enhance product development and deployment.Build and maintain customer relationships and align with market needs.Contribute to proposal development, scope review, estimate preparation and technical presentations; may serve as Proposal Estimate Lead.Identify and mitigate project risks, analyze solutions and communicate to leadership.Provide oversight of design activities and verify documentation and drawings.Ensure health and safety in all project activities.Short‑term travel may be required to meet clients and stakeholders.QualificationsB.A.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering.Current PEO license.Typically 5+ years’ experience in design engineering within a regulated industry such as Nuclear, Aerospace or Transportation.5+ years’ experience in design and development with proven success in a technical leadership role.Experience leading engineering projects and serving as a key design team member for complex projects across the EPC life cycle.Experience with project schedules, budgets, financial metrics and other project management methodologies.Broad interdisciplinary experience: systems design, requirements development, interface design, manufacturing and testing.Strong written and oral communication skills for diverse audiences.Creative problem‑solving, analytical abilities, leadership skills and teamwork.Flexibility to work remotely on short‑term customer site assignments.Desired CharacteristicsCreative and innovative thinker.Experience with 3‑D CAD software (Inventor or SolidWorks)
