With locations in Sarnia and Petrolia, we serve approximately 131,000 residents of Sarnia‑Lambton and employ nearly 2,500 staff, professional staff, and volunteers.ResponsibilitiesUnder the direction of RN/RPN, perform assigned functions that support the health care team in assisting patients with activities of daily living and in maintaining effective department operations.Provide direct and indirect care to patients under RN/RPN direction, including personal care such as bathing, grooming, skin care, mouth care, dressing, toileting, lifts/transfers, mobility assistance, feeding, and call bell responses.Report significant patient presentation to registered nursing staff to ensure patient safety.Document and record patient care as required by Bluewater Health policies.Maintain tidiness and cleanliness of patient care and nursing work areas.Distribute nutrition and beverages, prepare extra nourishments, and assist with feeding as needed.Restock supplies for the unit/department.Porter patients, supplies, and equipment as required by the department.Report damage or breakage of instruments and equipment.Work independently in a changing environment, manage interruptions, and meet deadlines.Recognize opportunities for process improvements and contribute to them.Interact with others in a manner that supports organizational goals through mutual respect, effective communication, and cooperative relationships.Participate in building a culture of safety,



partnering to improve patient care processes and systems.Report to RN/RPN in a timely, objective manner, without interpreting any changes in patient condition or new observations.Participate in unit/department and Hospital Quality Improvement initiatives.Complete continuing education requirements as necessary.Perform other duties as assigned to assist nursing staff.QualificationsPersonal Support Worker (PSW) Certificate from an Ontario College Certificate Program or an accredited program, PSWEPA required.Registration with the Health and Supportive Care Providers Oversight Authority (HSCPOA) is preferred.Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario CPR (C) certification required.Gentle Persuasion Approach Training preferred.Restorative Care Certificate from an Ontario College Certificate program preferred.Current Certification in Non‑Violent Crisis Intervention preferred.Skills, Ability and ExperienceBasic proficiency in computer use required.2 years previous hospital PSW experience preferred.Demonstrated knowledge of asepsis principles preferred.Previous experience maintaining supplies and equipment preferred.French language proficiency preferred.Successful applicants have the potential to become multisite employees.
