This competition may be used to fill identical positions in this unit within three (3) months of the closing dateAll qualified employees are welcome to apply, however preference is given to CUPE membersThe University will consider applications from qualified permanent staff who may be interested in a temporary assignment, subject to departmental approvalDUTIESPerform skilled work in the design, calibration, construction, repair, and modification of apparatus and equipment used in laboratory and field environments to support teaching and research programs.Exercise judgment in determining work layout and variations to choose appropriate actions for projects.Weld and operate a variety of welding and metal fabrication equipment such as cold bar bender, pipe bender, iron worker, sheet metal rollers, metal brake, and metal shears.Read and interpret blueprints; develop layouts and templates; work in confined spacesor from heights as required.Use welding and cutting processes such as SMAW, GMAW, GTMAW, FCAW; perform RSW, plasma cutting, water jet cutting, and oxy-acetylene welding.Perform other related duties as required.QUALIFICATIONSExperience (3–5 years)



working as a journeyperson welder or fabricator in an industry or university-related setting.High school graduation supplemented by a successfully completed Journeyperson Red Seal certificate in welding; or an equivalent combination of training may be considered.Experience welding steel, aluminum, and stainless steel; working with pressure systems, pipework, heavy industrial steelwork; and rigging and CAD experience considered assets.SALARY$60,091–$67,257 per annum (CUPE Local 1615)CLOSING DATEJune 4, 2026 by 5:00 p.M.
