Reporting to the Criminal Analysis Manager, the incumbent provides specialized research work involving the application of research techniques to support highly complex criminal investigative activities, operational programs, and crime reduction strategies. The incumbent provides statistical, tactical, and strategic crime analysis services and intelligence information to management. Considerable independence of judgment is exercised. Currently, the position is scheduled to run for up to 12 months (approximately). The duration of the term may be shortened or extended based on operational needs.Schedule / Hours of WorkThis is anon-siteposition and the anticipated schedule for this position is 7.5 hours per day and 37.5 hours per week. Please note,



the hours are subject to change based on operational needs and adherence to the Collective Agreement.Review police occurrence files to determine immediate crime problems and patterns of criminal activity.Prepare suspect and victim profiles, suspect lists, maps, and other graphic representations of criminal activity.Evaluate and validate intelligence information gathered from various sources.Develop and maintain comprehensive files, records, and documentation.Establish and maintain working relationships with staff and external agencies.Assist in the design and planning of projects relative to specific developments or detailed investigations.Determine which research methodologies are to be utilized for each project.Participate on project teams to monitor and identify the nature and scope of emerging and persistent crime problems, trends, socio‑economic or demographic factors related to the problem and assess the probability of future crime problems and trends.Prepare reports and recommendations for implementing strategies to address identified problems and trends. Provide statistical information and crime analysis.Provide advice and assistance on crime analysis and research to members and outside agencies.Provide training to members, staff and external agencies on methods and techniques of compilation of data.Deliver presentations, briefings, and situation reports on crime trends and related matters.Provide ongoing recommendations in regard to policies, procedures,



and operations.Keep abreast of developments in the field of crime analysis.Provide court testimony as required.Operate various Surrey Police Service (SPS) operational computer systems.Assist other staff in performing their duties.Perform other job‑related duties as required.QualificationsCompletion of a university degree in a related discipline including coursework in applied research and statistics.Completion of a specialty analytic training certificate.Minimum of five years related experience.An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.All applicants must obtain and maintain the required police security clearance throughout their employment with SPS, which includes a mandatory polygraph examination.Benefits & CompensationSurrey Police Service offers a comprehensive benefits package, including extended health and dental coverage, a defined benefit pension through the Municipal Pension Plan (after 12 months), generous vacation entitlements, and ongoing professional development.
