Bigstone Health Commission is seeking compassionate, reliable Shelter Support Workers to join our team and help maintain a safe and supportive environment for individuals experiencing homelessness. This role is essential to the daily operations of the shelter, offering direct support to residents while ensuring safety, dignity, and respect for all.Duties and Responsibilities:Ensure the safety and well-being of all shelter residentsConduct client intake and orientation, including coordinating sleeping arrangementsProvide crisis intervention, de-escalation, and conflict resolution as neededAssist with meal distribution and perform general housekeeping / sanitation duties during shiftsMaintain accurate daily logs, including incident reports and client documentationOffer referrals to mental health, addiction, social, and community support servicesSupport a trauma-informed, culturally respectful, and non-judgmental shelter environmentOther duties as requestedKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Solid communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skillsEmpathy, patience,
and a non-judgmental approachAbility to remain calm and professional in high-stress or crisis situationsUnderstanding of trauma-informed care practicesAbility to work on a rotating scheduleEffective teamwork and collaboration skillsEducation and Experience:Grade 12 education preferredExperience working with vulnerable populations, such as individuals facing homelessness, addiction, or mental health challenges is an assetExperience working in shelters, residential programs, outreach, or crisis settings is an assetCertifications in First Aid/CPR, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI), Harm Reduction Training, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), and Naloxone training is an assetSalary is dependent on qualifications.CLOSING DATE:Until a Suitable Candidate is Found.Bigstone Health CommissionThe strong commitment from Band leadership and Health Commission staff has resulted in a first class health organization that makes a difference in these communities.
