Day in the Life
The Structures Superintendent will provide field leadership for structural construction activities while ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on schedule, and in compliance with all contract specifications and quality requirements. They will work closely with Project Managers, General Superintendents, QA/QC teams, subcontractors, and field crews to achieve operational excellence.
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain construction schedules, including short-term, long-term, and 3-week look-ahead plans
Coordinate labour, equipment, materials, vendors, subcontractors, and structural construction activities
Plan and oversee bridge, foundation, staging, steel erection, temporary works, and access systems
Supervise in office operations, ensuring productivity, quality, environmental compliance, and adherence to project specifications
Manage equipment utilization, inspections, regulatory documentation, and maintenance schedules
Review project, shop, and engineered drawings and provide technical support to field teams
Monitor subcontractor performance to ensure compliance with project requirements, schedules, and quality standards
Lead safety initiatives by coordinating JHAs, SJPs, SWPs, training, certifications, PPE compliance,
and participation in safety programs
Coordinate inspections, testing, QA/QC documentation, and resolution of non-conforming work
Track production, costs, timesheets, purchasing, forecasting, and project performance metrics
Identify and communicate schedule, budget, productivity, and resource impacts to project leadership
Promote a proactive culture of safety, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement across all operations
Other duties assigned
Qualifications
Degree or diploma in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of technical training and relevant construction industry experience
Minimum 5 years of experience supervising new bridge construction projects on MTO or equivalent provincial transportation infrastructure projects
Knowledge of OPSS specifications and quality management requirements, preferred
Strong knowledge of structural construction operations, including Bridge construction, Engineered foundations, Formwork systems, Concrete construction, Temporary works and staging
Understanding of engineered access systems, steel erection, and structural staging, preferred
Ability to lead and evaluate crew and subcontractor performance.
Strong understanding of contract documents, specifications, and construction methodologies.
Experience with construction scheduling software, preferred
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
Ability to adapt to changing project conditions and priorities.
Compensation Data
Targeting a starting base salary between $100,000 to $140,000
Position has other compensation components (vehicle/vehicle allowance, discretionary bonus structure, company pension plan, benefits, etc.)
