About the Role Our client is seeking a seasoned Senior Materials Engineer with expertise in chemical applications to join their advanced research and development team in Kimberley . This role focuses on selecting, testing, and qualifying materials for use in demanding chemical processing environments, ensuring durability, safety, and performance. You will play a critical role in material selection for new equipment, troubleshooting material failures, and contributing to innovative solutions for corrosion and material degradation challenges. This position is perfect for a materials science expert who thrives in a challenging R&D; setting.
Key Responsibilities Evaluate and select appropriate materials (metals, polymers, ceramics, composites) for chemical process equipment, considering factors like corrosion, temperature, and pressure.
Conduct material testing and analysis (e.g., corrosion testing, mechanical testing, failure analysis) to assess performance and identify issues.
Develop material specifications and quality control procedures for incoming materials and fabricated components.
Investigate material failures, determine root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
Collaborate with process engineers, design teams,



and suppliers to ensure materials meet project requirements.
Stay current with advancements in materials science and their applications in the chemical industry.
Requirements Master's or Ph.D. in Materials Science , Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum of 7 years of experience in materials engineering, with a focus on chemical industry applications.
Expertise in corrosion science , materials selection, and failure analysis in aggressive chemical environments.
Proficiency with materials characterization techniques and equipment.
Strong understanding of relevant industry standards (e.g., ASTM, NACE).
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and technical reporting skills.
