About the Role Our client is actively recruiting a Lead Geotechnical Engineer for their significant mining operations based in Kimberley . This is a critical, site-based role responsible for ensuring the stability and safety of all mining structures and excavations. You will lead a team of geotechnical specialists, conduct advanced analyses, and develop robust designs to mitigate risks associated with ground conditions. The successful candidate will possess extensive experience in mining geotechnics and a strong commitment to safety and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities Perform geotechnical investigations and analyses for open-pit and underground mine design.
Develop and implement ground support designs and stability monitoring programs.
Conduct seismic hazard assessments and seismic risk management plans.
Oversee the collection and interpretation of geotechnical data from field investigations and monitoring.
Provide expert advice on the geotechnical implications of mine design and operational changes.
Manage a team of geotechnical engineers and technicians, ensuring high standards of work and safety.
Requirements Master's degree or Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Mining Engineering with a geotechnical focus.
Minimum of 8 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, with a significant portion in the mining industry.
Proven expertise in rock mechanics, slope stability analysis, and underground excavations design.
Proficiency with geotechnical software (e.g., Rocscience suite, FLAC, Plaxis).
Strong understanding of mining methods and their interaction with geological conditions.
Excellent leadership, communication, and report-writing skills.
