Sinai Health is looking for a Clinical Nurse Specialist to support our Surgical department at our Mount Sinai Hospital Campus.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) for Surgical Orthopedics, ENT, and Gynecology is an advanced practice nurse who functions in an expanded role within a collaborative practice model. Emphasis will be on working with surgical patients and their families during their experience at Mount Sinai Hospital and within a multidisciplinary team framework to set patient related goals and a comprehensive plan of care.

In This Role You Will

Demonstrating a comprehensive theoretical knowledge base and advanced level of clinical competence in the care of complex patients

Role models and participates in the provision of care to complex families

Ongoing development and maintenance of standards of nursing practice through creation of an environment conducive to growth and development of staff

Interprets and fosters the philosophy, goals and standards of the Department of Nursing

Collaborating on the establishment of goals and objectives for the population consistent with the provision of high quality patient and family centered care

Participates in the programmatic development of the clinical area

Playing a leadership role, leading quality activities and administrative duties including committee involvement

Participating in policy and procedure development

Playing a leadership role in the collaborative design, implementation and evaluation of information technologies in surgical oncology

Performing research activities and promoting evidence based clinical practice

Delivering, coordinating and participating in education and professional development activities/programs; performing activities to further develop and strengthen the profession including the supervision of students

Developing evaluation strategies related to the Surgical CNS role

Perform other duties consistent with the job classification as required

Job Requirements
Mandatory





Current certificate of registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario

5 years of experience in Surgical Nursing with skills in orthopedics, complex head and neck procedures and gynecology

Member of RNAO and other professional associations / organizations relevant to the role

BCLS certification

Preferred

Eligible for cross-appointment to an academic institution

Successful completion of a Master’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited educational institution or in progress

Skills and Knowledge

Comprehensive assessment which includes collection of both historical and psychosocial data, pathophysiology of disease process, recognition of risk factors and physical examination. Includes ability to assess health status, diagnosis, development of a treatment plan, implementation of plan, and follow-up and evaluation of the patient status

Comprehensive knowledge and a high level of clinical competence in caring for this complex patient population. Use and interpretation of screening techniques and diagnostic techniques, tests and tools

Demonstrated leadership skills and experience in interdisciplinary practice environments and a team approach to health care delivery

Demonstrated ability to critique and utilize research and ability to practice from an evidenced based perspective

Effective verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal and customer services skills

Excellent organization and time management skills

Excellent decision making, problem recognition, problem solving skills, negotiation and conflict resolution skills

Demonstrated commitment to collaborative practice

Ability to work effectively independently and under stressful conditions

Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history

This is a Temporary contract for up to Sixteen (16) months.

37.5 hours per week; must be flexible to work additional hours as required due to the nature of the role
