Position: Press Operator Location: Mississauga, ON
Shift: Continental Shifts
Pay Rate: $32.64 CAD per hour
Summary The Press Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and consistent operation of printing press equipment used to produce high-quality flexible packaging. This position leads press setup, operation, changeovers, quality inspections, and troubleshooting while ensuring all products meet customer specifications. Working closely with Press Assistants and other production team members, the Press Operator coordinates press activities, monitors operating conditions, and helps maintain a safe, organized, and productive work environment.
What You’ll Be Doing Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and secure manufacturing practices, including the proper use of personal protective equipment.
Operate printing press equipment safely and efficiently according to established procedures and production requirements.
Review job kits, job jackets, production schedules, and customer specifications before beginning each production run.
Lead press setups, changeovers, and shutdowns while minimizing downtime and material waste.
Install and prepare cylinders, anilox rolls, doctor blade assemblies, pumps, hoses, filters, and other press components.
Set and maintain proper registration, impression, web tension, ink coverage, and other operating parameters.
Monitor colour consistency, print quality, registration, ink viscosity, and overall press performance throughout each production run.
Blend inks and prepare solvent mixtures according to established formulas and required ratios.
Verify that the correct films, inks, cylinders, and other materials are being used and processed on the proper surface.
Conduct required quality checks and raw-material testing, documenting results accurately.
Identify printing defects, mechanical issues, and process deviations and make appropriate adjustments.
Troubleshoot press, ink, web-handling, and print-quality issues to maintain efficient production.
Load and unload rolls from the press and rewind equipment.
Set up splices and safely perform flying splices during production.
Ensure finished rolls are properly identified, secured, and prepared for transportation or storage.
Coordinate the preparation and staging of materials for upcoming jobs.
Direct and support Press Assistants during setups, production runs, changeovers, and cleaning activities.
Communicate production concerns, equipment issues, quality deviations, and shift updates to the appropriate team members.
Complete production records, quality documentation, downtime reporting, and other required paperwork accurately.
Perform routine cleaning, inspections, and basic preventive-maintenance activities.
Maintain housekeeping, health, safety, and quality standards throughout the press area.
Participate in Global Performance System activities and continuous-improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, waste reduction, and productivity.
Provide cross-functional support and training to other team members as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
We’d Love to Hear From You You have previous experience operating printing, converting, or other industrial production equipment.
You have flexographic or rotogravure printing experience, preferably within the flexible-packaging industry.
You understand printing concepts such as registration, colour matching, viscosity, web tension, impression, and defect identification.
You have strong mechanical aptitude and can troubleshoot equipment and process-related issues.
You can read and follow job specifications, operating procedures, production instructions, and quality standards.
You have strong attention to detail and take pride in producing consistent, high-quality work.
You can safely handle inks, solvents, and other production materials according to established procedures.
You are comfortable working continental shifts in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
You are dependable, demonstrate excellent attendance, and possess a strong work ethic.
You communicate effectively and can provide direction and support to Press Assistants.
You are committed to workplace safety, quality, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
You have a secondary school diploma or recognized equivalent.
