This unionized position involves performing a variety of physical labor tasks essential for the maintenance and enhancement of municipal infrastructure and public spaces. Responsibilities include operating tools and machinery, managing workload priorities, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment that are assigned by the Operations Supervisor.
SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES Perform all manual duties required.
Operate and utilize power tools, lawn mowers, hand tools, power saws, and small equipment.
Provide support during team member absences or period of increased workload to ensure continuity of operations.
Flagging and traffic control operations
Cold patching
Hydrant clearing and sign repairs
Housekeeping of the shop
Cleaning the vehicles and equipment
Tree trimming
Encourage and promote attitudes toward safe and responsible work practices and in all cases the standards of the Occupational Health and Safety Act must be met or exceeded.
Undertake water meter repairs.
Perform other duties and tasks assigned by the Operations Supervisor or Director of Operations.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & TECHNICAL ABILITIES Familiarity with workplace safety standards and regulations related to handling equipment and power tools.
Ability to perform strenuous tasks and lift heavy objects.
Ability to work collaboratively with a team or independently.
Proficiency in understanding and following instructions, as well as effectively communicating with team members and supervisors.
Ability to be flexible in adjusting to diverse tasks and work conditions, including working outdoors in different weather conditions.
WORKPLACE REQUIREMENTS & CONDITIONS High School Diploma
Must have a valid Ontario "G" driver's license.
Minimum of 2 years' experience working with power tools and other equipment.
Ability to work outside in different weather conditions including extreme cold and heat.
May encounter hazardous and toxic substances, must implement appropriate precautions to safeguard their eyes, nose and skin against irritation and infection.
Execution of tasks that can lead to physical fatigue, either through nearly continuous light exertion or frequent intermittent periods of moderate physical effort.
RELATIONSHIPS Internal: Employees of the Public Works department.
External: Daily contact with the public.
