The Cowichan Campus of Vancouver Island University plays a significant role in Duncan and the Cowichan Valley by offering a diverse range of practical and innovative educational programs and services tailored to the unique needs of the local community. Duties:
The Campus Administrative Assistant is key to the success of the Cowichan Campus, welcoming and providing excellent customer service to students, staff, faculty, and the general public. This role acts as the initial campus contact, responding to questions and inquiries, and requires a strong understanding of the functions, areas, programs and services offered by Vancouver Island University.
The Campus Administrative Assistant plays a critical role in how each visitor to the campus is received, and how their questions, problems and/or concerns are resolved. In addition, the Assistant works independently and without supervision on a wide variety of tasks requiring efficiency, accuracy, and confidentiality in a front-line, high-traffic,
and high-noise environment with regular interruptions.
Required Qualifications:
Office Administration Certificate or one-year post-secondary equivalent education from an accredited institution. Minimum three years' recent relevant experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience working in a front-line service delivery position
A wide range of knowledge and understanding of the functions, areas, programs and services offered by VIU
Exceptional interpersonal, communication and customer service skills
Ability to respect and maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive student information
Ability to problem solve and work under pressure during peak times and within deadlines
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, interruption-driven environment
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Teams, Word, and Excel
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge and experience in a post-secondary environment
Experience with VIU Systems
