Thyssen Mining is currently seeking experienced Development Supervisors for a FIFO camp position in Ontario working on a 14 day in 14 day our rotation.
Position Summary The Underground Development Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating underground mine development activities in accordance with the Ontario Mining Act , OHSA , and site-specific policies and procedures. This role ensures protected, productive, and cost-effective advancement of underground development headings while providing strong leadership to crews and contractors.
Key Responsibilities Supervise daily underground development activities including drilling, blasting, mucking, ground support, and installation of services
Ensure compliance with the Ontario Mining Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), and all site safety standards
Lead pre-shift safety meetings, workplace inspections, and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs)
Coordinate personnel, equipment, and materials to meet development and production targets
Monitor ground conditions and ensure proper installation and quality of ground support
Communicate daily progress, issues, and priorities to mine management and technical teams
Collaborate with engineering, geology, maintenance, and ventilation departments
Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions; implement corrective actions
Support training, coaching, and performance management of underground employees
Participate in short-range planning and continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications & Experience Minimum 5–10 years of underground mining experience, with a strong background in development
Previous supervisory or lead-hand experience in an underground environment preferred
Proven knowledge of underground development methods, equipment, and ground support practices
Strong understanding of Ontario mining regulations and safety requirements
Previous experience in "Mechanized Development"
Education & Certifications Post-secondary education in Mining Engineering Technology or a related discipline is an asset
Ontario Common Core – Underground Hard Rock Mining Modules, including Supervisor modules
Valid First Aid / CPR certification
Blasting certification or experience working with explosives (asset)
Skills & Competencies Demonstrated safety leadership and hazard recognition skills
Ability to lead by example and coach and mentor new employees as required.
Strong communication and team leadership abilities
Ability to manage priorities in a dynamic underground environment
Strong organizational, reporting, and problem-solving skills
Competency with production reporting and mine tracking systems
Work Conditions Underground work environment in all mining conditions
Rotational schedules may include days, nights, weekends, and extended shifts
Physically demanding role requiring compliance with site medical and fitness standards
