Job Description: Reporting to the Manager of Quality and Safety, the Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) is accountable for the application and adaptation of the nursing process to help protect, promote and maintain the health and safety of employees in accordance with the mission, vision and values of the Saskatchewan Health Authority. The OHN identifies, manages or eliminates risk to employees by developing and coordinating health and safety programming in compliance with legal, industry and leading practice standards. Services are based upon regional and individual needs. The OHN is knowledgeable in occupational health and safety, occupational screening, environmental health, and human relations. The OHN requires excellent communication and administration skills in the provision of occupational health services to a variety of stakeholders.
Human Resources Exemption: No
Experience Minimum 1 year experience in Occupational Health or Public Health Nursing
Education Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN)
Other Education and Training Occupational Health Nursing certificate is acceptable
Immunization certificate is an asset
Diploma: Occupational Health Nursing/ability to complete w/in 3 yrs of employ.
If no OHN diploma, Occup. Health Cert. or can obtain w/in 3 yrs of employ.
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation HCP Certificate (CPR-HCP)
Nursing diploma is acceptable

Knowledge and Abilities Know of adult ed. methods/population health promotion & apply to HCP programs.
Knowledge in immunology and biologicals used for immunizations

Knowledge and ability to interpret the Sask. Health Immunization manual (SIM);
Knowledge of policies/procedures to address blood & body post exposure
Competent critical thinking/judgement/autonomous decision making capabilities
Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
Ability to work independently and with broader interdisciplinary teams
Respiratory N95 Fit Testing
Demonstrated ability in program development, implementation and evaluation
Sensitivity to concerns of management and labour
Knowledge of communicable diseases, follow up and reporting
Knowledge and ability to deliver regional safety programs
Knowledge of legislation and acts pertinent to employee health & safety
Knowledge in community health and public health concepts
Can apply nursing research/ best practice to develop/revise policy & procedure
Knowledge and ability to interpret serology
Knowledge of infection control best practice
Knowledge of research and statistical collection concepts
Ability to apply advanced computer skills
