Compensation: $33,725.28 (Over 10 Months)

About the Role:
The School Settlement Program Staff plays anessential role in the planning, implementation, and delivery of activities andservices designed to support and empower newcomers as they settle in their newcommunity. This position, under the supervision of the coordinator, works toensure that programs and services are inclusive, accessible, and responsive tothe diverse needs of newcomers, fostering a sense of belonging.



This role involves providing assistance tostudents and families in adapting to their new educational setting,navigating the school system, and accessing community resources. This role willcollaborate with educators, school administrators, and community organizationsto ensure that newcomer families receive the necessary support for academicsuccess and social integration. By fostering positive relationships betweenstudents, schools, and the wider community, this role helps newcomers feelwelcome, supported, and empowered in their educational and settlement journey.

Responsibilities include

Providing individual and group settlement support in schools

Building effective professional relationships with

Engaging schools through awareness raising, meetings and building connections

Facilitating problem solving using solution focused approaches

Supporting clients to access supports and opportunities within the school system

Identifying and supporting opportunities to engage newcomer contributions

Providing referrals to community resources

Reporting qualitative and quantitative information on work activities

In this role, you will:

Provide individual and group settlement support inschools

Build effective professional relationships with schooland community networks

Engage schools through awareness raising, meetingsand building connections

Facilitate problem solving using solution focusedapproaches

Support clients to access supports and opportunitieswithin the school system

Identify and support opportunities to engage newcomercontributions

Provide referrals to community resources

Report qualitative and quantitative information onwork activities

Education and Skills Qualifications:

Language proficiency in English and additional languages is anasset





Combination of education and experience working in communitysetting

Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills

Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multipletasks, meeting deadlines

Understanding of, and experience with, the Nova Scotia schoolsystem – policies, procedures, expectations etc.

Demonstrated discretion and sound judgement in the handling ofconfidential information

Excellent data management skills and Microsoft 365 Skills

Experience working with and providing service to diversepopulations

High level of initiative is needed to work independently andrespond to unanticipated situations

Experience delivering presentations and workshops

Experience working with children providing creative groupactivities

Valid drivers’ license and vehicle
