Position SummaryThe Junior Effects Technical Director works under a sequence Effects Lead to support shows and troubleshoot the flow of data in/out of department and/or show. They may get opportunities to do basic FX shotwork, rendering and slap comps. Work is subject to close supervisory review at frequent intervals. They need to be able to develop enhancements or “fixes” to identified aspects of art / technologies.What You’ll DoPerforms entry level shot work including running simple/pre-canned effects (foot hits, “easy” missile trails, sparks, underwater particulates, weather passes, easy smoke) on multiple shots across a show and render tuningCommunicating status of shots to supervisors and ProductionHand off elements to other departments i.E.



comp and rendering teamsPresents shot work in dailies; attend dailies and other department meetingsData management of shots including clean upSpecial projects as neededWhat We’re Looking ForIdeally 2 years of relevant VFX or related experience and at least a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education.Exhibits strong teamwork and interdisciplinary thinkingProduction pipeline experienceStrong communication and follow-throughAbility to work under pressure and deadlinesExperience with Houdini.Basic knowledge of the physics of simulationDemo reel requiredThe hiring range for this position in Vancouver, BC, Canada is C$59,900 to C$76,600 per year based on a 40-hour work week. The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
