Title: Controls Engineer
Location: Essex, ON
Contract Length: 6 Months (High likelihood of extension)
Must-Have Qualifications
- 3+ years of Controls Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
- Strong Siemens PLC programming and troubleshooting experience
- Experience modifying, debugging, and optimizing PLC code in active production environments
- Experience commissioning automated equipment and supporting production systems
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical controls, automation equipment, and process issues
- Experience analyzing production line performance and implementing process improvements
- Understanding of manufacturing workflows, part flow, and material movement within automated systems
- Ability to work independently with minimal oversight and quickly diagnose root causes of equipment issues
Preferred Qualifications
- ABB Robotics experience
Job Summary
Our automotive manufacturing client is seeking a Controls Engineer to support ongoing production and continuous improvement initiatives within a high-volume manufacturing environment. This individual will work directly on existing production lines to improve throughput, troubleshoot controls-related issues, optimize equipment performance, and support smaller-scale automation projects.
The ideal candidate will have robust experience with Siemens PLCs, manufacturing automation systems, and production support environments. This role requires someone who can quickly analyze how equipment and programs are operating, identify areas for improvement, and implement controls modifications that increase efficiency, improve Jobs Per Hour (JPH),
and support overall production performance.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Support existing production lines by troubleshooting controls and automation-related issues
- Analyze Siemens PLC programs and make modifications to improve equipment performance and reliability
- Investigate equipment behavior and determine why machines are making specific operational decisions
- Review and optimize automated processes, including gantry and material handling systems
- Support commissioning activities for automation modifications and smaller production improvement projects
- Identify opportunities to improve throughput, increase JPH, and reduce downtime
- Work closely with manufacturing, maintenance, and engineering teams to implement process improvements
- Maintain current production systems while driving continuous improvement initiatives
- Perform root cause analysis and corrective actions for controls-related production issues
- Document programming changes and support implementation of best practices across production operations
Compensation:
$50/hr to $55/hr.
Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.
