Supervisor, Community Program – Group FitnessSalary Range:$ 83,137.00 To $104,793.00 AnnuallyJob DescriptionReporting to the Community Program Coordinator, Group Fitness, the Community Program Supervisor-Group Fitness will work as part of the City of Markham Fitness Strategy team that is responsible for the delivery of all group fitness programs and services within all City of Markham recreation facilities. This position will mentor, support, motivate and provide guidance on performance management of all Group Fitness Instructors within the Centers while maintaining positive relationships with fellow area staff, residents, community groups and clients. The Community Program Supervisor will be a frontline Subject Matter Support to all fitness councilors and group fitness instructors.Work PeriodWork Term: Approximately 35 hours per week. Schedule: Primarily daytime shifts, with some evening and weekend requirements based on operational needs.DutiesAssist Community Recreation Coordinator – Group Fitness in providing administration and supervision for program services within the group fitness portfolio within the City of Markham Recreation Department.Assist in recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, payroll and managing performance of part-time group fitness staffAssist with development and ongoing monitoring of operating budgets including identification of capital budget needsAssist in the development and implementation of an annual Training PlanCollaborate with internal stakeholders to establish season schedules that reflect the needs of the communityWillingness to lead by example and conduct Current Member Orientation appointments and teach a variety of Group Fitness ClassesPlan and implement new and innovative group fitness classes that reflect industry trends and community needsEnsure an environment of customer service excellence exists when dealing with all internal and external stakeholdersAssist with the preparation and presentation of promotional materialsRequirementsPost secondary education (College diploma or University degree) in recreation or appropriate discipline.Minimum three years full-time supervisory experience in a fitness center setting with direct experience in Group FitnessValid Group Fitness Certification mandatoryAbility to teach a variety of Group Fitness Classes which includes Choreography-based classesAccess to personal vehicle for frequent travel between sites is required.Personal Training Certification an assetCurrent certifications in Standard First Aid or Intermediate First Aid with CPR C and AED.Proficiency in MS office.Proficiency in a variety of virtual fitness platforms.Satisfactory VSSCore BehavioursService Excellence:Leads and supports staff in meeting or exceeding service standards when interacting with customers.Change & Innovation:Effectively implements change and supports and involves staff through change transitions.Teamwork & Relationship Building:Leads and supports staff in working together collaboratively, fosters teamwork and inclusion, and cultivates relationships.Communication:Models active listening and clear communication, and supports staff members in communicating effectively.Accountable Results Oriented:Role models ethical behaviour and accountability; clarifies expectations,policies and legislation and supports staff in meeting them.Management & Leadership:Supports a positive work environment, develops and enables staff, sets clear expectations, provides regular feedback, and addresses performance.The City of Markham is committed to inclusive, accessible, and barrier free employment practices and to creating a workplace that reflects and supports the diversity of the community we serve.
