Known for our flexible, family‑friendly policies and inclusive workplace culture, the District is an exceptional place to build a meaningful career.About the RoleThe District of North Vancouver is seeking an adaptable, self‑motivated, customer‑service‑oriented individual to fill an auxiliary Building Inspector 1 position. The primary area of responsibility will be inspections of residential projects during construction, alteration and repair to determine conformity with established bylaws, acts, codes, standards and regulations. The role also involves discussing construction, alteration and repair matters with contractors, engineers, architects, homeowners and the public; interpreting requirements; advising on required changes and/or corrections; and determining compliance.Successful Applicant QualificationsThorough knowledge of building construction practices and methodsThorough knowledge of relevant bylaws, acts, codes,
standards and regulationsAbility to read and interpret plans and related material to recognize technical requirements and suggest changesAbility to establish and build positive relationships with local and broader construction industry stakeholdersAbility to process applications through a variety of municipal departmentsAbility to deal effectively and tactfully with a variety of internal and external contactsAbility to prepare reports, records and correspondence related to the work and to work with a minimum of supervisionQualificationsYou have completed Grade 12 plus an apprenticeship in the carpentry trade or graduation from a post‑secondary institution with a diploma in Building Technology and have sound related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. You must be a BOABC member in good standing and have achieved a BOABC Level 1 qualification or possess an exempt professional designation. A valid B.C. Driver’s Licence is required.
