The Camp Counsellor plays a key role in delivering a safe, engaging, and fun camp experience for all Seal Camps participants during March Break and Summer Camps. Working under the direction of the Camp Manager and Camp Coordinators, Camp Counsellors are responsible for supervising campers, leading activities, supporting daily routines, and ensuring that each child feels included, supported, and excited to attend camp each day.

Key Responsibilities

- Supervise and actively engage campers throughout the day, ensuring their safety, inclusion, and enjoyment at all times.
- Lead and support camp activities as scheduled, including games, crafts, sports, swimming, and specialty programming.
- Assist with daily camper check-in and check-out procedures, including headcounts and confirming authorized pick-ups.
- Maintain required child-to-staff ratios and follow all safety protocols, emergency procedures, and facility rules.
- Support positive camper behaviour using age-appropriate strategies; redirect as needed and report concerns to Camp Coordinators or the Camp Manager.
- Assist with smooth transitions between activities, including group movement, washroom breaks, snack/lunch times, and end-of-day dismissal.
- Communicate respectfully and professionally with campers, fellow staff, and supervisors.




- Model enthusiasm, teamwork, and positive leadership to create a welcoming camp environment.
- Help prepare, set up, clean up, and store activity materials and equipment.
- Report incidents, injuries, or concerns promptly and assist with documentation as required.
- Support inclusion by adapting activities to meet diverse needs and abilities of campers.
- Follow all Seal Camps policies, procedures, and code of conduct at all times.

Qualifications

- Minimum 16 years of age within the calendar year.
- Completed or working towards a secondary school diploma.
- Previous experience in childcare, camp counselling, or a similar field.
- Experience with one of the specialized disciplines: visual arts, fashion/textile arts, circus arts, dance, performing arts, games, science, etc.
- Passion for working with children and helping them grow in a positive environment.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Consistently brings a positive, energetic attitude to the workplace, fostering a motivating and supportive environment.
- Ability to work in a team and handle multiple tasks at once.
- Criminal Background Check (with Vulnerable Sector Check)



required for candidates 18+ — cost covered by incumbent.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification required — cost covered by incumbent.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada for the duration of the seasonal contract.

Working Conditions

- Combination of indoor and outdoor work in a multi-use facility including a pool environment.
- Involvement in training, events, and other operational duties.
- Manual dexterity for computer work and occasional lifting/moving of up to 50 lbs.
- 20–40 hours per week.
- Bring your own sunscreen, hat, water bottle, snacks, and lunch.
- Staff shirt provided; closed-toed shoes (running shoes) required.
