As an Investigator on the Major Investigations team, you will investigate breaches of energy and environmental legislation to uphold enforcement and ensure fair, unbiased decision‑making.ResponsibilitiesTriage inspection and audit findings to decide if investigation is warranted.Develop investigation plans to guide you and your team through the process.Gather evidence through information requests, witness interviews, photography, physical evidence collection, historical research, and technology.Analyze vast amounts of information and data to discover leads, substantiate theories, and prove the case.Write investigation reports that evaluate and summarize evidence for unbiased enforcement decisions.Serve as subject‑matter expert to advise AER staff on investigation processes, techniques, and evidence preservation.QualificationsBachelor's degree in science, resource management, law enforcement, or related field.Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in regulatory compliance and enforcement.Experience in investigations is an asset.Strong analytical, critical thinking,



and problem‑solving skills.Effective collaborator with proactive communication and respectful opinion sharing.Excellent verbal and written communication skills for documentation and presentations.Additional InformationAll applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada at the time of application. If you do not meet the exact qualifications but possess closely related skills, you may still be considered.Requirements: pre‑placement medical, valid class 5 driver’s license with a positive driving record, qualifying to be an Alberta Peace Officer (training provided if needed). Background screening including criminal record check will be conducted.Training: First Aid, H2S Alive, Driver Training. Occasional overnight travel to AER offices and field locations.
