Program Coordinator (TYJC)Employment Division – Toronto Youth Job CorpsContract period: Start Date to March 31, 2028Hours per week: 35 hours/weekSalary: $70,000 annuallySupervisor: Divisional Manager – EmploymentOverviewWest Scarborough Neighbourhood Community Centre (WSNCC) offers neighbourhood programs and services designed to enhance the well‑being of people in the context of their community, culture and environment. By way of an adaptive service framework, the Centre fosters social interaction and mutual aid, personal growth, mental and physical health, environmental education and awareness, self‑help and community participation.Reporting to the Divisional Manager – Employment, the Program Coordinator (TYJC) is responsible for the effective and productive day‑to‑day operation of the program, including providing leadership, guidance, and support to staff and participants.ResponsibilitiesOversees the development, implementation, promotion, and evaluation of programs and services for youth ages 16–30Supervises program staff, including participation in recruitment, onboarding, training, performance management, and ongoing staff supportEnsures regular staff participation in divisional meetingsAssists in the preparation and submission of program budget information to the Divisional Manager and the City of TorontoMonitors and manages all program‑related expensesPrepares and submits weekly payroll and participant stipend informationCommunicates program updates and operational changes to staff and participantsEnsures compliance with all applicable legislation, regulations, policies, and standards, including the Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety requirements, WHMIS, workplace violence and harassment legislation, and confidentiality requirementsPromotes an inclusive and respectful program environment that values diversity, equity, and inclusionFacilitates weekly staff meetingsMaintains program statistics and participant records, and prepares monthly, quarterly, and other reports as requiredDevelops and maintains positive working relationships with funders, employers, and community partnersEvaluates existing services, identifies service gaps and emerging needs, and develops recommendations and proposals for program enhancementsAssists with grant proposal development and supports efforts to identify and secure new funding opportunitiesCollaborates with TYJC satellite locations, internal departments, and external community agencies to foster teamworkParticipates in Coordinators Council meetingsEnsures adherence to all Board‑approved organizational policies, procedures,
and practicesEnsures all incidents involving staff and/or participants are documented and reported in accordance with legislative and organizational requirementsCoordinates and supports special events, including graduations, employer recognition events, youth celebrations, and fundraising initiativesParticipates in agency‑wide committees and organizational initiativesAttends organizational events including Volunteer Recognition activities, the Annual General Meeting, and participates in United Way campaignsSupports and contributes to agency‑wide events, community engagement activities, and fundraising effortsDemonstrates and promotes professionalism, inclusivity, sensitivity, and respect towards individuals of all abilities, backgrounds, and identitiesPerforms other related duties as assignedSupervisory ResponsibilitiesDirectly supervises TYJC staff and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable legislationSupports recruitment and selection processes; coordinates stafftraining and onboarding; assigns, monitors, and reviews work; conducts performance evaluations; provides coachingand corrective action; and addresses employee concerns and workplace issues effectively and professionallyWork ScheduleMonday to Friday, with occasional evening and weekend work required to support program and operational needsQualificationsUniversity degree or college diploma in Social Services, Social Work, Community Development, or a related fieldDemonstrated experience in a management or supervisory role within the non‑profit or community services sectorExperience working with youth, with a strong understanding of youth development, employment barriers, and community supportsAbility to perform all essential duties of the position in a competent and effective mannerStrong understanding of youth‑related issues and the ability to respond appropriately to diverse needs and circumstancesExperience advocating on behalf of clients or programs with various levels of government, funders, and community partnersKnowledge of relevant legislation and standards, including the Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety requirements, and other applicable regulationsStrong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with staff, participants, and external stakeholdersDemonstrated ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment,
and manage competing priorities in a quick‑paced environmentProficiency in program administration, reporting, and basic financial oversight, including budget monitoringCommitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and culturally responsive service deliveryEducation and ExperienceEducation: University degree or college diploma in Social Services, Social Work, Community Services, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.Experience: 2–3 years of experience in a management or supervisory role, with related experience working with youth in social services, employment counselling, or a related community services field.SkillsStrong time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and quality of workStrong problem‑solving skills with the ability to address complex and varied situations requiring sound judgment and flexibilityExcellent communication, leadership, and team‑building abilitiesStrong critical thinking, analytical, and decision‑making skillsAbility to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports and legal documentsAbility to respond effectively to inquiries, concerns, or complaints from clients, employers, and regulatory agenciesAbility to present information clearly and professionally to directors, community groups, funders, and Boards of DirectorsExperience in developing budgets and monitoring their implementationUnderstanding of financial statements and their implications for program and/or divisional planningAbility to lead, motivate, delegate, and manage a diverse staff team while fostering a positive work environmentPhysical DemandsThis position may occasionally require assisting with the loading and unloading of supplies and equipment at various work sites. Some lifting and hands‑on tasks may be required as needed.
