Applications for this position must be received at oakville.Ca by no later than 11:59 pm on June 5, 2026.Probationary Rate:$32.90Full Time Rate:$33.20This job posting is for an existing vacancy and therefore will be filled accordingly.Job ResponsibilitiesOperates in a safe and efficient manner trucks or comparable vehicles used by the Department, including all related equipment and auxiliary attachments such as plows, sanders, trailers etc.Performs winter maintenance operations such as road sanding & salting, snow plowing, snow removal, etc.Maintains and submits accurate daily records of work activities, vehicle use, etc.Loads or assists in loading or unloading vehicles and trailers.Will be required to operate other tools & equipment used by the Department.Maintains vehicles & equipment in a clean, tidy condition, performs trip inspections, reporting deficiencies, etc. in a prescribed manner.Accountable for all vehicles, tools and equipment assigned.Will be required to work a fixed or rotating shift during the winter season and possibly be required to work weekend and holiday shifts. Candidates may be required to work shifts such as 6am to 2:30pm, 2:30pm to 11pm, or designated weekend shifts as per winter patrol schedules.Must be prepared for assigned periods of standby / on‑call duties for overnights and weekends.Applies safety precautions and procedures in the performance of duties in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the policies of the Town of Oakville.Executes his/her duties in a tactful and courteous manner and maintains a neat appearance to convey a positive image to the public on behalf of the Town of Oakville.Performs other duties as assigned,
including those of a lower job classification.QualificationsA minimum High School education or acceptable equivalent in education and experience.2 years previous experience in driving and operation of various Works Operations related equipment.2 years previous experience in driving and operation of a one‑person truck plow unit.Demonstrated effective communication, both oral and written, customer service and problem‑solving skills. Proficient time management skills and flexibility in adjusting between a variety of duties.Ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team.Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and a working knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Highway Traffic Act is a requirement.Capable of understanding and following the requirements of the Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7, including how to document and set‑up traffic control plans.Must hold and provide a copy of a valid and unrestricted Ontario Driver’s License Class DZ minimum (standard and automatic transmission) with a driving record that demonstrates responsible and safe driving behaviour. Note: Applicants with 6 or more points are ineligible for consideration. The successful applicant, who is a recent hire, will be required to provide the Corporation with a current drivers abstract (no older than 30 days) and pass a Town administered road test as a condition of employment.This job profile reflects the general requirements necessary to perform the principal functions of the job.
