Learn more at shn.Ca.Position OverviewThe Physician Assistant will support Emergency Department physicians with assigned or delegated tasks. The physician maintains primary responsibility for patient care as the principal medical decision-maker. The type of work delegated, and the extent of direct supervision provided to the PA will be dependent on the physician’s scope of practice and SHN policy.



Typically tasks may include:Conducting patient interviews and taking medical historiesPerforming physical examinations and proceduresProviding counseling on preventive health carePerforming controlled acts as delegated by a physicianPerforming other tasks within the supervising physician’s scope of practice that the physician deems the PA qualified to completeResponsibilitiesConduct patient interviews and obtain medical historiesPerform physical examinations and procedures as delegatedProvide counseling on preventive health careCarry out controlled acts as delegated by a physicianComplete other tasks within the supervising physician’s scope of practice as qualifiedQualificationsGraduate of the McMaster or Consortium Physician Assistant ProgramCertified by the Physician Assistant Certification Council of CanadaEligible to work in Canada/OntarioCurrent ACLS and BCLSDemonstrates excellent time management, prioritization, decision-making, problem-solving and organizational skillsDemonstrates ability to take initiative and work under pressureDemonstrates excellent interpersonal, communication (spoken and written) with the ability to interact with a wide range of stakeholders with professionalism, tact and diplomacyDemonstrated ability to manage confidential and sensitive materials in a skilled mannerDemonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients,
