Manager (Early Learning and Care)Type:Permanent Full TimeLocation:Multiple Locations, Toronto, ON, CAHours:35 Hours/WeekStart Date:August 2024Position SummaryMacaulay Centres for Children is seeking a Manager of Early Learning and Care to join the licensed child care department. The Manager provides leadership and support to licensed child care centres and program supervisors, ensuring program delivery meets licensing, funder, and community needs. The role oversees administrative and financial operations of the centres.ResponsibilitiesLeadership:Build a climate for the team to succeed in the delivery of quality early learning and care programs and services to meet the requirements of licensing, funders and the needs of the communities servedEvaluate contribution of each Supervisor, motivate, coach and engage individuals to achieve the delivery of high quality early learning experiences to children and families respectful of diversity and social inclusionConduct annual evaluations for all supervised positionsDelegate responsibility and activities, retaining accountability when implementing new projects or strategies functioning as a key contributor accountable to achieve established project goals and outcomesProvide leadership and facilitates planning, implementation and evaluation of particular curricula or programming that achieve annual goals consistent with the Agency’s strategic plan, philosophy, vision and missionEstablish and maintain a range of partnerships with local communities to achieve operating capacity enrolment and collaborate in potential development of new programs and/or servicesOrganize and provide professional development for Child Care staff and or providersEvaluate the impact of the implementation of new curriculaSupport the program supervisors to ensure that the child care operations are in compliance with the Ministry and City requirementsParticipate on management committees and project teams as requiredCover for the director in his/her absence.Administration:Provide oversight of day to day activities of each centre and/or program to achieve the mission, vision and strategic objectives of the AgencyCoordinate the collection of relevant statistical data and prepare reports of aggregated month end centre/program statistics and submits to the Program DirectorEffectively oversees serious occurrences/accident investigations and escalates or reports appropriatelyOversee property/building maintenance and repair; liaise with the landlord regarding tenancy issuesHuman Resources Management & Financial Accountability:Lead by example, share knowledge and model change management theory and practice with staff when implementing or changing program or Agency priorities and practicesEngage, mentor, coach and build capacity within the supervisor’s teamRecruit, hire and monitor the staff’s performanceAssist HR team in recruitment of casual staff and provide ongoing trainingSupport investigations as needed (client complaints, employee investigations, etc.)Foster environment of teamwork and continuous quality improvementMonitor centres budget; investigate and addressbudget variances with the Program Director and the Director, Finance and AdministrationAssist in the preparation of annual operating budgets as requiredApprove capital expenditures and requisitions, staff expenses, staffing requests etc.QualificationsDegree or diploma in Early Childhood Education with 5 years’ experience in group care leading and supervising early childhood educators, assistants and support staff in a unionized environmentExperience with the Play Based approach,
ELECT framework and “How does learning happen?”Demonstrated ability to introduce and lead cutting-edge early learning projectsDemonstrated ability to motivate, inspire and engage supervisors and staffExcellent interpersonal and organizational skills, strong ability to prioritizeStrong working knowledge of child developmentStrong working knowledge of the Child Care and Early Years Act and City of Toronto Assessment for Quality ImprovementExcellent written and verbal communication skillsExperience working with children with special needs within a child care settingDemonstrated flexibility and excellent problem solving skills to meet the day-to-day requirements of the positionDemonstrated ability to act or react decisively in challenging situations, make informed decisions and escalates appropriatelyExperience working in an inclusive setting with a diverse communityClear Vulnerable Police Record CheckCurrent Standard First Aid certification and appropriate medical and immunization recordMember in good standing with the College of Early Childhood EducatorsValid Driver’s License and access to a personal vehicle is required.Salary and BenefitsSalary Scale: $101,355 - $112,367 per annum.
