The role focuses primarily on client‑based energy modelling, NECB and ASHRAE compliance analysis, and building systems evaluation, with additional responsibilities supporting modelling automation and internal workflow development. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) who reviews and signs off on regulated deliverables. A key component of this role is mentoring and supporting junior energy modellers. The successful candidate will play an active part in developing the technical capabilities of early‑career team members and fostering a collaborative, learning‑oriented work environment.Job DutiesPerform building energy modelling and simulation using EnergyPlus, OpenStudio, or comparable building energy modelling softwareDevelop and evaluate NECB compliance models and support ASHRAE‑based energy analysisConduct or support ASHRAE Level 1, 2, and 3 energy assessmentsAnalyze energy conservation measures including HVAC systems, building envelope improvements, lighting systems, controls optimization, and operational strategiesReview architectural, mechanical, electrical, and structural drawings to extract modelling inputs and verify assumptionsConduct site visits to collect building data and verify system configurationsPerform parametric and sensitivity analysis to assess the effect of building systems and operating variablesPrepare technical reports, modelling summaries, audit findings, and related client deliverablesReview modelling outputs and identify inconsistencies requiring further investigationDevelop and maintain Python‑based or similar scripting workflows to support modelling automation, simulation setup, data processing, and results analysisSupport development of internal tools, standardized workflows,



and reporting methods to improve modelling efficiency and consistencyCoordinate assigned modelling and audit tasks to meet project schedules and deliverablesParticipate in client discussions to clarify project requirements and present technical findingsMentorship and Junior Staff DevelopmentProvide day‑to‑day guidance and technical mentorship to junior energy modellers on modelling tools, workflows, and quality control practices.Review and provide constructive feedback on work completed by junior staff, supporting their professional development and growth.Assist in onboarding new junior team members by sharing established workflows, modelling standards, and best practices.Identify learning opportunities for junior staff and support their progress toward professional certifications or designations.Contribute to a positive and cooperative team culture that encourages knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.Employment RequirementsEducationDiploma or degree in mechanical engineering technology, building science, sustainable energy, energy management, or a related technical field.Education in computer science or data‑related fields may be considered if combined with relevant building energy modelling experience.ExperienceMinimum 3–5 years of experience in one or more of the following:Building energy modelling and simulationCommercial building energy auditingNECB or ASHRAE energy compliance modellingBuilding performance analysisParametric or simulation‑based analysisRequired Technical QualificationsExperience using EnergyPlus, OpenStudio, or comparable building energy modelling toolsMinimum 2 years of experience using IES VE and RETScreen ExpertExperience using Python or similar scripting tools for modelling workflows or data processingWorking knowledge of NECB and ASHRAE standards relevant to building energy analysisAbility to interpret architectural, mechanical, electrical, and structural drawingsUnderstanding of HVAC systems, building envelope, lighting, controls, and ventilation systemsAbility to analyze modelling outputs, energy performance data, and energy conservation measuresAbility to prepare technical reports and support client deliverablesStrong analytical, problem‑solving,
