We do this by uniting leading underwriting talent and specialty insurance brands under one coast-to-coast platform, delivering speed, service, and expertise at a national scale.OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Commercial Lines Senior Underwriter to join our Commercial P&C; Real Estate team.This individual will play a key role in driving the company’s growth and profitability. The position requires assessing the acceptability of business opportunities in line with company guidelines, including reviewing and pricing new submissions, renewal business, and endorsements. The successful candidates will leverage their expertise, creativity, and entrepreneurial mindset to develop strong broker relationships and grow their book of business. Our Senior Underwriters work closely with experienced practice leaders, managers, and executives, supported by an extensive product range, ample capacity, and the empowerment needed to succeed. In collaboration with colleagues and management, they deliver value-added expertise and exceptional service to our broker partners. This is a hybrid position based in our Toronto, ON office.ResponsibilitiesPerform risk analysis using internal and external data resources for quoting, negotiating,



and authorizing renewals and new business opportunitiesPursue and achieve production targetsTravel occasionally to meet with brokers and promote business opportunitiesDevelop and support professional business partnerships with brokers through prompt service, proactive communication, and solution-oriented problem solvingLead business development meetings with brokers to strengthen relationships and prospect for new opportunitiesHandle endorsement requests within delegated authority, independently engaging with brokers to clarify requests or seek missing informationMake decisions based on imperfect informationCommunicate decisions and respond to requests promptly and professionallyBuild and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external parties, including attending industry seminars and networking eventsNegotiate coverage with brokers within delegated authority parametersManage, strengthen, and grow a book of profitable businessMaintain compliance with established corporate guidelines and delegated authority parametersWork independently to meet deadlines and accomplish goalsTake ownership of work-related activities and follow through on commitmentsDeal effectively with pressure, maintain a positive outlook, and recover quickly from setbacksPrioritize and complete tasks within allocated timeframesTake responsibility for learning and implementing new ideas, methods,



and technologiesDemonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills (written and verbal)Exhibit strong decision-making and analytical skillsMentor and train newer team members (if required)Think strategically, formulate objectives, and implement plans consistent with company’s long-term interestsDocument files ensuring completeness, compliance, and quality standards while maintaining a paperless environmentComplete loss reports and post-claim underwriting reviewsQualificationsAt least 5+ years of Commercial P&C; Underwriting or Brokering experienceStrong specialty in Commercial Residential Realty Insurance is an assetChartered Insurance Skilled (CIP) designation or actively pursuing (CAIB or equivalent accepted)Have a valid Broker license or ability to qualify for one within 90 days of employmentProficiency in Microsoft OfficeHave existing relationships within the industry you can leverage to attract business opportunities and grow your portfolioCan lead a business development meeting with a broker to strengthen the existing relationship and prospect for new opportunitiesHave attended insurance industry events, such as broker conventions and networking eventsFamiliarity with basic legal structures in CanadaBenefitsDental careExtended health carePaid time-offRRSP matchVision careSalary Range: The expected salary range for this position starts at $75,000+ annually and will be impacted by factors such as the successful candidate’s skills, experience and working location, as well as the specific position’s business line, scope and level.
