Become a vital part of BC Ferries in Alert Bay as a Bridge Watch Deckhand. This role focuses on vessel operations, safety, and customer service, ensuring a smooth experience for passengers.

As a Bridge Watch Deckhand, you will report to the Chief Officer or Mate while directing traffic and ensuring the safety of all onboard. Essential skills include effective communication and the ability to perform maintenance and cleaning duties. You'll actively patrol the vessel, monitoring for safety hazards and compliance with regulations, contributing to the safety and operation of BC Ferries.

Key Responsibilities:
• Manage vehicle and foot traffic on the vessel
• Communicate with officers and ticket staff via radio




• Check and secure propane tanks before departure
• Conduct cleaning and maintenance of the vessel
• Patrol the ship for safety and navigational hazards

Requirements:
• Bridge Watch Rating CoC or higher certification
• STCW Basic Safety and Survival Craft training
• Valid Seafarers’ Medical Certificate
• Ability to perform emergency duties
• Knowledge of seamanship and protected work practices
