SCOPE
Located on the unceded and ancestral lands of the Salish peoples, including the q̓ic̓əy̓ (Katzie), q̓ʷɑ:n̓ƛ̓ən̓ (Kwantlen), and Semiahma (Semiahmoo) Nations, the City of Surrey is a globally recognized leader in building vibrant, sustainable communities.

Heritage Services is seeking a team-oriented, creative, and relationship-focused Coordinator of Indigenous Programs to help shape and deliver Indigenous-led arts, culture, and learning opportunities in Surrey. This role is based at Totest Aleng: Indigenous Learning House, a space in Elgin Heritage Park dedicated to Indigenous artistic practices, knowledge sharing, and community connection.

EMPLOYMENT STATUS
Union - CUPE Local 402 – Temporary Full-Time

RESPONSIBILITIES
The Coordinator plays a central role in bringing Indigenous-led arts, culture, and learning opportunities to the community and in supporting the City’s ongoing commitment to reconciliation. They will be responsible for:

Planning and implementing a range of programming and events.





Coordinating artist residencies and supporting Indigenous artists.

Building respectful and reciprocal relationships with community members, organizations, Elders, and artists.

Collaborating with internal and external partners.

Supervising and supporting both staff and volunteer teams.

Managing service agreements, budgets, and program administration.

Preparing reports, presentations, grant applications, and communication material.

Other duties as required.

We are looking for a thoughtful, relationship-oriented professional who is committed to creating space and opportunities for Indigenous arts, culture, and community connection. The ideal candidate has demonstrated experience developing and delivering Indigenous cultural programming and building relationships with a range of communities and organizations. They are an effective communicator, skilled project manager, and a collaborative leader who takes initiative and thinks creatively to assess and respond to community and service needs.

QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from a recognized university or college level program.

3 years of progressively responsible experience including supervision; or

An acceptable equivalent combination of training and experience.

OTHER INFORMATION
Hourly Rate: $38.25

Pay Steps

Step 1 – $38.25

Step 2 (6 Months) – $39.34

Step 3 (18 Months) – $40.61

Step 4 (30 Months) – $41.75
