The Tuberculosis (TB) Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works within Public Health, CDC and Screening, Primary Care Alberta, and reports to the Manager of the Edmonton TB Clinic. As part of a multidisciplinary health care team, the LPN provides client and family-centred care to clients with active TB disease or latent TB infection.Using the nursing process, the LPN delivers care to individuals, groups, and communities. Key responsibilities include dispensing and administering medications through directly observed therapy, monitoring and documenting medication effectiveness, identifying signs and symptoms of adverse medication reactions, supporting TB screening and detection, completing vital sign assessments, providing client education, and conducting visits for clients in the community.This role requires the ability to safely carry up to 25 lbs. of equipment; pack, push, pull, and transport heavy or awkward supplies; walk 3 to 4 blocks; and climb 3 to 4 flights of stairs to deliver services. The position also involves awkward and repetitive movements throughout a 7.75-hour shift, including prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and bending. The LPN must be able to document continuously in an electronic medical record throughout the shift.The successful candidate will bring experience working with diverse communities, groups, and organizations, including ethno-cultural, equity-deserving, racialized, faith-based, LGBTQ2S+, vulnerable, marginalized, disability, and age-diverse populations. Required Qualifications: Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program.Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA).Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications: Recent experience within the past year in TB care or public health nursing is required, particularly in the management of tuberculosis, infectious diseases, or community-based care. The successful candidate must be able to work to full scope of practice, including medication administration, patient assessment, and the review and interpretation of relevant lab results. A current N95 fit test is required. Demonstrated proficiency with Connect Care and Netcare is also required.The candidate must be able to safely complete client-handling activities, including transfers, weight shifting, rolling, mobilizing, and CPR. This role also requires the ability to push and pull equipment and tolerate the physical demands of the position, including reaching, standing, walking, sitting, and keyboarding throughout the shift.
Preferred Qualifications: Strong clinical knowledge and practical skills in TB care, including understanding of TB diagnostics, treatment regimens, and follow-up requirements. Demonstrated ability to engage respectfully with diverse populations and provide culturally sensitive, patient-centred care. Proven ability to manage complex cases, prioritize competing demands, and work effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
