About the Role
The Production Technician is responsible for assembling and manufacturing products designed for controlled environment systems, including irrigation systems, climate control equipment, and other horticultural equipment.
This is a hands-on production role involving product assembly, plumbing, mechanical work, equipment operation, quality control, and preparation of finished products for shipment.
The position requires strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, physical stamina, and the ability to accurately follow technical drawings, blueprints, work instructions, and production standards.
Key Responsibilities
Assembly and Manufacturing
Assemble irrigation systems and other horticultural equipment according to detailed work instructions, blueprints, and technical drawings
Install, assemble, and connect plumbing components, including pipes, valves, and fittings
Complete mechanical assembly work on components used in controlled environment systems
Follow established production procedures and specifications to ensure consistent product quality
Tools and Equipment Operation
Operate hand tools, power tools, and production machinery safely and effectively
Use equipment such as drill presses, mills, saws, die grinders, and disc grinders to modify and assemble components
Use measuring tools to ensure components meet required specifications
Maintain tools and equipment in safe working condition
Quality Control and Testing
Inspect and test completed products to ensure they meet specifications and quality standards
Identify defects, inconsistencies, or assembly issues and make corrections as required
Perform basic quality checks throughout the production process
Maintain a high level of accuracy and workmanship
Packaging and Inventory Support
Securely package completed products for shipment
Ensure products are accurately labelled and properly documented
Track materials and components used during production
Assist with inventory checks and communicate shortages or excess inventory
Help maintain organized storage and production areas
Team Collaboration and Production Support
Work closely with Production team members, Supervisors, and Engineering to support production requirements
Communicate production issues, material concerns, or potential delays promptly
Assist with resolving production and assembly issues
Support improvements to assembly processes and overall production efficiency
Safety and Workplace Standards
Follow all company safety procedures and production protocols
Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workstation
Use tools, machinery, and equipment in accordance with established safety requirements
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required
Technical certification in manufacturing, engineering, plumbing, horticulture, or a related field preferred
1-3 years of experience in assembly, manufacturing, or production preferred
Experience within horticulture, agriculture, greenhouse, or irrigation systems considered an asset
Experience with plumbing systems, including PVC, copper, and flexible tubing, highly preferred
Forklift, reach truck, and scissor lift experience considered an asset
Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
Technical Skills and Competencies
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and work instructions accurately
Proficiency with basic hand and power tools
Familiarity with measuring tools, grinders, and production equipment
Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on problem-solving abilityStrong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards
Critical thinking, problem-solving, and resourcefulness
Strong organizational and time-management skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a quick-paced production environment
Reliable, punctual, and committed to meeting production requirements
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical production work for extended periods, including up to eight hours per shift
Ability to lift and carry materials or assembled products weighing up to 50 lbs. (23 kg)
Frequent use of hands, arms, and wrists for repetitive assembly tasks
Strong hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity when working with small parts and tools
Ability to occasionally work from ladders or elevated platforms
Ability to visually inspect products and accurately read technical documentation, with corrective lenses permitted
Ability to work in a manufacturing environment that may include moderate noise, varying temperatures, and dust
Additional Requirements
Ability to comply with all company safety procedures and PPE requirements
Forklift, reach truck, and scissor lift certification preferred or willingness to obtain where required
