The Legal team at Calor Gas is seeking an engaging, proactive, and influential Senior Legal Counsel (Data Privacy) to lead our privacy agenda across the business.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced legal and privacy qualified to act as Calor GB's privacy expert, providing strategic guidance across the organisation while ensuring we continue to meet our regulatory and legislative obligations. Working closely with senior leaders, the wider Legal team, Compliance, Internal Audit, Finance and HSSE, you will play a key role in embedding a culture of privacy by design and driving best practice across the business.
As Senior Legal Counsel (Data Privacy) , you will be responsible for developing and maintaining Calor's Privacy Framework, leading on data protection matters, and acting as the primary contact for privacy-related queries, regulatory engagement, and investigations. You will also bring external insights and SHV Group best practice to help continuously improve our approach to privacy and compliance.
What you'll be doing
As our Privacy Officer, you will:
Lead Calor GB's privacy programme, ensuring compliance with GDPR and wider data protection obligations.
Act as the organisation's subject matter expert on privacy, data protection, and related regulatory requirements.
Manage and respond to Data Subject Access Requests, ensuring robust and timely responses.
Champion a "privacy by design" approach across projects, systems, processes, and organisational changes.
Develop, maintain, and continuously improve Calor's Privacy Framework, policies, and governance processes.
Conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments and provide practical risk-based advice to the business.
Deliver data privacy training and awareness initiatives that help colleagues understand their responsibilities.
Build strong relationships with stakeholders across the organisation, influencing decision-making and promoting best practice.
Work closely with the Calor Compliance Manager, SHV Compliance team, Internal Audit, Legal, Finance, and QSHE teams.
Lead investigations into data protection and privacy incidents, ensuring appropriate reporting and remediation.
Act as a key point of contact with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) and other regulatory bodies when required.
Bring industry and SHV Group insights to strengthen Calor's approach to privacy, compliance, and governance.
What we're looking for
We’re looking for someone who combines strong legal expertise with excellent stakeholder management skills and a passion for driving continuous improvement.
You’ll have:
Significant expertise in Data Protection and GDPR legislation.
A strong understanding of wider compliance and governance topics, including:
Third Party Due Diligence
Anti-Bribery and Corruption
Conflicts of Interest
Legal controls, processes, and risk management
Degree-level education or equivalent professional experience.
Experience working in roles spanning legal, compliance, risk, or governance.
Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
The ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
Experience working with auditors, regulators, and senior business leaders.
A proactive approach to problem-solving and implementing change.
The ability to balance legal requirements with practical business solutions.
