About the role Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular Full Time Laboratory Assistant - Clerk to join our dynamic Supply Chain Operations West team.
In this role you will be responsible for para technical functions of the Laboratory and may be assigned any of the duties and responsibilities listed below. Depending on the size of the Centre, complete rotation of duties may not be practical. You will adhere to all current operating procedure, practices good judgment in the performance of job responsibilities and promote Centre objectives through good interpersonal skills.
Acts as the Blood Order desk administrator in the mornings, during break coverage for Distribution Lab Assistants, or the entire shift depending on the needs of the operation
Blood order desk coordination includes, but is not limited to: receiving blood orders by fax, or online and processing them, setting up delivery transportation, eProgesa and SAP data entries and document creation,



communication with hospitals in response to any questions or order follow-up
Sets up and maintains the filing system by filing new material for such documents as correspondence and production records
Places orders for stationary items and department supplies as needed or directed
Manages the clerical and data entry related to staff leave requests, approvals and associated digital calendar entries
Reviews hospital customer feedback, deviation investigation data on EtQ, drafts and submits official letter responses to the hospital contacts in collaborations with the HLS and Distribution Supervisor
Coordinates with Logistics Warehouse or Dispatch with regards to supplies or hospital deliveries as needed
Oversees the administrative organizing of all hemophilia patient orders
Prepares reports as directed
If the Technologist requestsassistance, may receive medical recall and inventory retrieval documents. According to established procedure, accesses files using eProgesa, calls and faxes hospital customers, documenting action taken and ensuring timelines for response are met
Desired education and skills High school diploma or equivalent
Strong multi-tasking skills, work ethic and ability to follow instructions precisely
Ability to communicate effectively with internal staff and external stakeholders in an effective and professional manner
Ability work with others in a multidisciplinary team environment,



as well as independently with minimum supervision
Ability to work variable shifts including days, evenings, nights and weekends
Physical ability to perform duties of the position (stoop, kneel, crouch, lift and carry boxes/cartons) and lifting up to 50lbs
